Blurring the lines between hardshells and softshells, the Marmot Women’s Zion Jacket delivers lightweight waterproof protection while also providing the breathability and freedom of movement for skiing, winter trekking, climbing or mountaineering.
I am wearing the Marmot Women’s Zion Jacket. This is the piece that you are going to want with you in those nasty, windy, rainy, wet conditions where you are doing a high aerobic activity and you need a shell that is going to move with you, that is going to stretch with you, that is going to dump out all of that excess heat, but it is also going to protect you from those elements. And the fabric here is really the show stopper. It is innovative polartech neo shell fabric, which has an incredible stretch to it. So it is going to move with you on those ascents. It blurs the lines between a hard shell and a soft shell fabric. So this is completely waterproof, completely seam taped and it is going to keep out that wind and that rain. It acts as a soft shell, though, and it feels like a soft shell. So it is not shiny. It is not crunchy or crinkly. It is definitely a soft fabric. It is going to move with you and it is really nice. So you have got that Marmot M1 soft shell fabric as well. So it is a really good combination.
This is a piece that you can wear with minimal layers underneath of it. I am wearing just a lightweight t-shirt, but it is a generous enough in the cut that it anticipates that you are going to be wearing some warmer layers underneath of it. You can use it in all of those different conditions. In those winter conditions it is going to keep out that wind and snow and cold. So definitely a great piece and it is feature rich.
So starting with the full length zipper in the front, you do have weather proof zippers here. So you have got a weather proof zipper here on the front, full length zipper. You have got a chest pocket right here to just get hands on small items quickly. You have a nice weather proof zipper there as well.
Down at the bottom hem you do have kind of a dropped hem in the back, which is really nice just for that added protection, but you do have adjustability down at the hem on both sides. So you can cinch that down. If you are wearing a harness with it, you can cinch down the bottom so that it is not bowing out on you so you are going to have a lot of protection there. You have got an internal chest pocket as well. It is right there. So you have got, you know, some access inside. Other than that, just a really comfortable lining on the inside.
Moving up the jacket you do have two pockets that are set up pretty high. So this anticipates you are going to be wearing a harness. You are going to be wearing, maybe, a backpack. So you have got pockets here. You can still access these even if you are wearing those items and the pockets actually here can act as an extra ventilation for the jacket. So if you are just building up a lot of heat, you can kind of unzip those pockets and dump out some of that heat. In addition, you do have underarm zips. They are two way so you can have all of that ventilation. These are longer zippers than I have seen on some underarm vents, so you can see that just is going to dump out all of that excess heat from under your arm.
Your arm protects that zipper anyway, so you can definitely unzip that when you are doing high aerobic activities to stay nice and dry and nice and comfortable.
Moving up the jacket you have a pretty high collar here. So if I zip it up you can see the collar comes up pretty high. So this is going to protect you when you don’t necessarily want your hood on, but you want to protect your neck and cinch everything down there. There is a soft material on the inside of that collar. So it won’t irritate your chin.
You have got a nice, big hood here. It is a helmet compatible hood so definitely anticipates that you can put that hood over to of a climbing helmet. You have a stiffened brim and you have lots of adjustability on that hood as well. You have got adjustability in the back and around the sides. So even if you re not wearing a helmet, you just want to use that hood, you can cinch all of those down and it is not going to be too bulky or too big of a hood. So all of the features here just make this a well rounded piece.
Down here at the cuffs you do have adjustability on both sides and then an extra little pocket. So that is a great place for a pair of keys or Chapstick or something like that. So feature rich jacket. It is going to really get you through the nastiest of weather. You have got really windproof protection there, waterproof protection. This jacket is going to move with you. And with Marmot’s Angel Wing movement through the arms, it is a great climbing piece. So that stretch, that comfort of this piece is just great for any adventure. It is the Marmot Women’s Zion Jacket.
