A highly versatile, aerobic-worthy insulated jacket, the reversible Berghaus Women’s Vapourlight Hydroloft Hoody weighs in at just 6.52 ounces and packs down to the size of a grapefruit, making it perfect for trail runners, adventure racers, or ounce-counters looking for “just in case” warmth.
We are taking a look at the reversible Berghaus Women’s Vapourlight Hydroloft Hoody. This is an extremely lightweight, synthetic insulated piece that has a lot of uses. So it is meant for high aerobic activity in cold temperatures when you are looking for a layer that packs down to be really small, but is going not provide a lot of warmth for its weight.
The really versatile thing about this piece is it is truly reversible. So you are kind of getting two jackets in one here. Right now I am wearing it with the hot side out so this face fabric on this piece is very smooth. You can see that it doesn’t have any baffles in it here. And you have got a very wind resistant fabric. It is a very lightweight fabric. You have got mini rip stop in there, so it is durable for its weight, but, again, it packs down to be really small. And this is going to really block a lot of wind and it is also going to hold in your body heat.
Now the other side of this jacket actually has baffles. And that fabric is actually meant to be more air permeable. So you can see the blue side is kind of the cool side. It is going to let that hot air escape and it is also, with those baffles, and it is also a little bit less wind resistant than this face fabric on the other side. So this side is going to keep you nice and warm when you need it to, but it is going to breathe with you in those high aerobic activities.
Now if you stop to take a break or you need a little bit of a warmer side, you can just flip it around and wear it with the hot sided out.
There is also a neat little logo here where you have kind of the fire symbol for the hot sided out. And then if you flip it around you can see a snowflake there. So it is kind of a little added touch that reminds you which side is which.
Now another stand out feature in this piece is this synthetic insulation. This is really high quality Hydroloft. It is a proprietary Berghaus material and it is extremely warm for its weight. So it is synthetic. It doesn’t retain moisture. It doesn't retain wetness. So it dries out really quickly, should this piece become wet and it really holds its thermal efficiency if it does become wet. So if you are out there for long hours on the trail, if you are out there for long days and you need this piece to, you know, keep you warm even in those nasty conditions. So it is really versatile that way.
The features here are really simple. Obviously it is full length. You have elasticity here at the bottom hem. The hem in the back drops a little bit so you get a little bit more coverage there. You have elastic cuffs as well. And then this is hooded so you have the same elastic in the hood.
The collar here comes up pretty high, so if you are just wearing it without the hood it is really going to protect your neck. You can even pull it up over to give it a little bit more protection there. So that is a really great feature that I like. It is nice and comfortable and you have got a little bit of stretch to it as well. And then the warm side here does have front pockets. The other side doesn’t have any front pockets. So you have got pockets here on the outside, kind of hand warmer pockets if you need them there. And then here in the pocket you do get a small stuff sack. This jacket packs into this very small stuff sack and it is really easy to just pack it away when you don’t need it and pull it out when the temperatures drop. So just really versatile insulation.
It is a 40 gram insulation, so relatively lightweight, but it is perfect for when you just need that lightweight warmth. It is perfect for trail runners, for adventure racers or for people doing high aerobic activities in very chillily temperatures and are looking for something very lightweight and packable that is going to keep them warm and safe in the backcountry. It is the Berghaus Women’s Vapourlight Hydroloft Hoody.
