Designed for high-aerobic activities like skiing, climbing, backpacking, or running, the Marmot Women’s Estes Jacket utilizes M3 softshell fabrics to maximize breathability while offering warmth and water-repellent protection.
I am wearing the Marmot women’s Estes jacket. This is a very light weight and breathable and very stretchy soft shell jacket. Marmot is using their M3 soft shell material which is very light weight. It is made up of 10 percent elastane stretch and 90 percent polyester. So it stretches in both ways. This jacket is going to move with you. And for anyone who is on the go moving fast and wants a breathable soft shell that is also going to provide a lot of protection, this is the perfect piece.
You don’t have a waterproof piece here, but it definitely has water resistance. So there is a coating on the outside of this material. It is going to shed a light rain, a light snow really well, but as you are moving, as you are climbing, hiking, backpacking, it is going to breathe with you.
You have got simple features here on this jacket, but the attentions to detail really caught my attention. Starting with the full length zipper, easy on, easy off. And you have got a storm flap behind that zipper so it is going to add a little bit of extra protection.
On the inside of this jacket you do have sort of a light weight liner material just on the front. This is... makes up the inside of the pocket, but this also provides a little bit more protection and a little bit more warmth. The back of the jacket doesn’t have that little bit of a liner so your back is going to be able to breathe really well. And the zipper pulls are really nice, light weight, easy to use.
Down here on the bottom hem you do have a dropped hem in the back. So that is really great. It is not going to ride up on you. And you can cinch down the hem on both sides with a stretchy draw cord. So it is really great when you are wearing a harness or a back pack with a hip belt. It is also not going to ride up on you there.
Going down to the cuffs, you have a pretty trim cut in the arm and down into your wrist. You have adjustability in the cuff here with Velcro. And that makes it great for wearing gloves either over top or underneath. Again, you have that stretchy material so lots of movement there. And it is an asymmetrical cuff. So the top part goes over the top of your hand really well.
The pockets here, you have two hand level pockets on the front. These are pretty big pockets. They start up here and they go all the way down to the bottom of the jacket. This would be a great place to store an extra pair of gloves or a hat or something like that. Again, you have that stretch with those pockets so you can really get a lot in there. And they are set up high enough that if you are wearing a harness or a back pack you can still access the top of the pocket.
You do have another pocket on the outside, a small pocket right here on the chest. And on the inside of the jacket you have got a small zippered pocket as well. There is a little media port at the top so you can route ear buds if you want to.
There is a simple collar right here on the top. If you have this zipped up all the way there is a little zipper garage so that is going to protect your chin from abrasion against the zip-per. It is a really comfortable collar and just overall fit and feel of the jacket.
I am wearing a small now and I normally wear small in Marmot all across the board and it fits exactly how I would expect a soft shell jacket to fit. It is a pretty trim cut. So it is meant to fit close to the body. And with all that stretch that you get, I feel like I can move in it. It is not weighing me down, but I can definitely tell there is some wind resistance. There is some protection from the elements. This isn’t a waterproof piece by any means, but, again, you do have a little bit of protection from the elements there.
I can see myself hiking, backpacking, climbing in this piece. I can also see it as just a day to day wear. So it is definitely at home downtown. It is just as at home in the backcountry.
It is the Marmot women’s Estes jacket.
