Designed for high-aerobic activities like skiing, climbing, backpacking, or running, the Marmot Women’s Estes Hoody utilizes M3 softshell fabrics to maximize breathability while offering warmth and water-repellent protection.
I am wearing the Marmot women’s Estes hoody. This is a light weight, very stretchy and breathable soft shell jacket. The material here is 90 percent polyester, 10 percent elastane stretch. So it stretches in all directions, which is going to be great for climbing, any activity where you are moving fast and you want this jacket to breathe, but also provide a lot of protection.
This isn’t a waterproof piece. Like I said, it is going to breathe really well as you are moving, but it is going to hold up to a light rain or a light snow really well because it has a water repellent finish on the outside. It makes it a great piece of hiking or back packing and it is even a great every day jacket if you are just wearing it of different activities. It makes it very versatile.
The features here are really streamlined and simple. You have got a full length zipper here, so easy on, easy off. There is a storm flap behind the zipper so that is going to keep out some weather as well. There is two pockets here on the outside. And these pockets are set up a little bit higher so you can still access them if you are wearing a harness or a back pack with a hip belt. You can access the top pockets. But they also come down really low. So this pocket is pretty big. It comes all the way down the bottom of the jacket. And it comes all the way up to here. So you can put a lot in these pockets. They are stretchy as well. So if you need an extra pair of gloves or something like that, they will definitely fit in there.
Down at the bottom you have got a stretchy draw cord that you can pull on either side of the hem. And that just cinches it down, keeps the heat in, but also if you are wearing a harness or back pack, it is not going to ride up on you.
And the hem in the back is actually a little bit dropped so as you are moving it is not going to ride up on you as well.
You have got Marmot’s angel wing movement here in the shoulders and in the arms. So, again, the jacket is going to stay where it needs to be. You have freedom of movement here with this jacket. And that is the big story with such a stretchy, soft shell.
In addition to the hand pockets, you do have chest pocket up here. It is a small pocket. It would fit pretty small items you want to get your hands on quickly. And then on the in-side you do have an internal zippered pocket. There is a media port here up at the top of that pocket to route ear buds. Going to the cuffs you have got an asymmetrical cuff. And the top of the cuff fits really well over the top of your hand. They do taper down into your wrist. So it is a pretty trim fit here and you have adjustability with a Velcro closure. So it makes it really great for wearing with gloves. You could put gloves over top or underneath because you have got really stretchy material there.
The hood is also really nice. You have got kind of a higher collar here, so you could zip it up and just protect your neck. Of if you want to wear the hood it is a helmet compatible hood. So you could definitely wear a climbing helmet underneath of that hood and have protection over top. But you do have a draw cord goes around that hood. So if you are not wearing a helmet, you are just wearing it over you head, you can cinch it down and it is really comfortable.
This jacket fits really well. It is a little bit of a trim fit, an active fit. So in through my arms it is a little bit more narrow. But since you have such a stretch material here that is Marmot’s M3 soft shell material, it fits really well. It is supposed to fit close to the body. And I am wearing a small right now. I normally wear smalls in Marmot. It fits really well there. And it, again, the feel is just... it is really stretchy. I feel like I could do anything in this jacket. I could wear it day to day, backpacking, hiking, climbing, anything you can throw at it.
It is the Marmot women’s Estes hoody.
