Offering maximum warmth for cold weather activities, the Sierra Designs Women's Elite DriDown Parka features treated 850-fill duck down insulation, a form-fitting hood, and a long profile that provides extended coverage.
Renowned for their efficiency in retaining heat and compressible properties, the feathers and fibers of down have an incredibly soft, comfortable feel, and despite advances in synthetic materials, continue to provide the best warmth-to-weight ratio of any insulation available. The one inherent weakness of down insulation is that it loses much of its ability to maintain warmth when it gets wet, but DriDown performs differently. Employing a unique, innovative polymer application, DriDown actually creates a hydrophobic finish on each individual plume of down. This treatment results in insulation that stays dry 10 times longer and dries 30% faster than untreated down. Perhaps most impressively, this allows the insulation to retain 2 times more loft than untreated down, which translates into maintained warmth that untreated down simply cannot achieve.
The Elite DriDown Parka contains a membrane within its shell to provide a higher level of warmth and weather resistance than many down jackets, and a PU-coating on the ultra-lightweight, high tenacity 10D ripstop fabric provides extra protection against the elements. A combination of 20D and 30D ripstop yarns adds durability. Other features include an adjustable hood that folds into a protective collar, two insulated hand warmer pockets, a center front zipper that secures the hood around the face without the need for a drawcord, an insulated storm flap with anti-snag design, and elasticized cuffs. Due to the high loft and extreme compressibility of the 850-fill power duck down, the parka can be packed down small into an interior pocket and easily stowed in a pack. A soft, brushed interior on the pocket enables the jacket to serve as a pillow.
Available in your choice of color and size options, the Sierra Designs Women's Elite DriDown Parka has a regular cut that fits well over midlayers and baselayers.
