I am wearing the women’s Sierra Designs DriDown Stratus jacket. And as its name sug-gests, it is insulated with 800 fill dry down. Dry down is a treated down that is going to keep you drier, keep you warmer in damp conditions and it is going to dry out a lot faster than untreated down.
This jacket is loaded with features. The first thing, it is coated with a durable, water re-sistant finish. So it is definitely waterproof, but it will hold up to a light rain or a light snow.
If we talk about the pockets you have two hand warmer pockets in the front. You have an elastic draw cord that you can actually adjust inside the pocket. There is a storm flap behind the zipper and they actually sewed a piece of fabric on there that it is supposed to not allow the zipper to catch. On the inside you have two, what they call dump pockets. So you can put a big pair of gloves or even a pair of goggles inside the pocket. You have an interior chest pocket that as a media port and you have a fully adjustable hood.
The features on the collar and the hood are worth mentioning. The collar and the hood are separate so you can zip up the collar and have freedom of movement without having the hood bunch up around your neck. It is a fully adjustable, helmet compatible hood. So you do have a pretty big hood with two cinch cords, one that goes around the top of your head and then a peripheral cinch cord around the back to give you full adjustment.
The fit of this jacket is pretty standard. I am wearing a medium and I probably should be wearing a small as there is a little bit of extra room under the arms and in the torso. Other than that, it has a great feel and a good fit.
Some last features, you do have a thumb hole on either side which is a nice feature and it comes with its own stuff sack so you can pack that down and stow it away when you don’t need it.
All in all the Sierra Designs DriDown Stratus jacket is a great stand alone piece for mild weather conditions.
