I am wearing Marmot’s Vapor Trail hoody, a nice low profile soft shell jacket. Excellent water resistance and breathability.
The Vapor Trail hoody falls into Marmot’s M2 category of soft shells. So it is a balance of resistance against weather and, again, breathability. So there is more breathable offerings from Marmot. There is more weather resistant offerings from Marmot, but this one really bridges the gap nicely. It is low profile. I wouldn’t consider it the warmest piece that is out there, but it is extremely versatile and something, especially if you use it as a layering piece, that you might find yourself using all year round.
The Vapor Trail hoody utilizes Marmot’s angel wing movement so it is construction on it that you can move in the jacket without the jacket pulling up and riding up on you. Really understated feature, but comes in very handy when you are on the go hiking, backpacking or other kinds of aerobic activity.
There is also dual construction on this jacket. So on the front of the jacket you have got its highest wind and water resistance. On the side panels, on the sleeves in areas where you are more likely or most likely to warm up to potentially over heat, you have got better breathability in those areas.
An athletic fit to this jacket. So unlikely that you are going to be wearing it over heavier layers, but certainly over a t-shirt or low profile base layers. It with that athletic fit it fits nicely underneath heavier layers.
So, again, something I would certainly consider using as a layering piece.
As far as adjustability is concerned there is dual points of adjustability here on the hem. The cuffs have an elastic built into them, so while there is no adjustability there, fit is im-proved by that touch of elasticity. It is a hooded jacket and that hood also has points of adjustability here at the chin and then also on the back of the hood as well.
I want to show you the pockets on the Vapor Trail hoody. You have got two zippered hand pockets here on the front of the jacket, also a zippered pocket here on the sleeve. And there is an additional internal zippered pocket that has a media pass through. So if you are using an MP3 or any other electronics, headphone jack will pass straight through.
So, again, Marmot Vapor Trail hoody. A nice versatile piece, one that I would use all year round in cooler weather, external piece, cold weather. I would be using this as a layering piece.
