How to Set Up the Big Agnes Fly Creek UL 1 Tent

The ultralight Fly Creek UL 1 tent from Big Agnes uses an innovative and streamlined design to provide a lightweight and user-friendly tent. Gear Specialist Luke walks through the intuitive set up process in this video.

How to Set Up the Big Agnes Fly Creek UL 1 Tent

1. Stake it out...(if you wish)

Although technically freestanding, you can maximize the floor space and interior volume of the tent by staking out the four corners. If employing a footprint to protect the floor of your tent, you can lay them both out and stake down together.

2. Construct the Body

Construct the body

The hubbed, Y-shaped pole mirrors the tapered shape of the floor with a single connection point at the rear of the tent and two at the front, on either side of the door. Insert each end into its corresponding grommet.

Raise the body of the tent and connect the main, black clip with the hub at the top of the ridge pole. Continue securing the clips, starting from the center and working outward.

3.Deploy the Rainfly

The rain fly orients in the same manner as the pole system, with the single buckle at the back and the two buckles at the font. After securing the fly, tighten the webbing as needed to get a nice, taut pitch.

Helpful Hint: If you’ve staked out the floor of the tent, you have two additional connection points for the rainfly in the rear two corners. The elastic bands in the corner can attach to the stakes to pull the fly further away from the tent body.

Lastly, stake out the vestibule. It’s helpful to do so with the door of the rainfly closed in order to create just the right angle and tension. You can then open it, but this way the door can later be closed without the need to adjust your stakes in the rain.
