I’m wearing Gregory’s Jade 28. It is a women’s specific pack. It is from their hiking ventilated line. This is a really nice light weight pack. It is going to be perfect for any sort of an out and back in a day trip, a variety of multi sport activities or any sort of a quick and light over night.
So the women’s Jade 28 uses Gregory’s cross load DTS suspension system, so you can see it’s got a padded lumbar and a nice open mesh back panel here. There is tons of space behind this for air flow to get through and that suspension system is using steel bars that are wrapped under tension and that really helps take the load in the pack and transfer it directly to the lumbar. The more weight you put in it, the better that suspension works. This pack would be great and comfortable for those up to about 30 pounds.
Jade 28 has a nice women specific ergonomic harness here. You have got your adjustable sternum strap, some load lifters as well as a nice adjustable hip out. This has a comforta-ble light wrap with enough padding to be comfortable with up to 30 pounds in it for a day’s worth of wear and you get some great hip out pockets here for small items.
The very top of the pack you have got a flat pocket here. It is great for stuffing stuff you need to get to quick. I have got a little stove, my wallet, cell phone. It actually runs down the front of the pack all the way to here. So there is a bit more space in there than is at first visible by the eye. And access to this pack is another great feature. It is a full open top. This whole piece just kind of folds back here. You can see. So you have got great access into the inside of the pack. If you need to get to stuff or loading it is going to make it really easy. You can easily get to things, items you have got in there.
As you can see there is small mesh pocket on the inside of that to tuck away items that are tiny that you may not need to get to as often.
Let’s walk through some of the features on the outside of the Jade 28. We do have trek-king pole or ice axe attachments here, loops at the bottom. In this front compartment you have got a zipper with a flat pocket. That is great for storing a map or anything you need to get to quickly that is not too large. You do have compression straps on this, top and bottom, two mesh pockets on the outside. You can see one is great for holding a water bottle. You can tuck many other things in there. Those compression straps, grab them outside of that really secure those items to the pack. When you loosen those compression straps at the top here which actually release, you can kind of upll this piece back and you can see you have got some stuff storage down in here. Got a jacket tucked in there. It is really easy to get to on a day like today where it is potentially going to rain.
So those compression straps kind of pull that load, whatever you have got in that front panel there back together and just kind of compress the weight of that pack even better to the suspension system you have got here.
A really nice feature on the outside of this pack is at the bottom here you will see this zipper pull. Gregory does have a waterproof rain cover tucked away inside there. It is a nice out of the way pocket. If it does get rainy you can just kind of pull that out, cover the pack. It comes with it. It is a great added bonus feature.
The inside of this pack is one open sleeve. It does have a separate sleeve in the back for hydration bladder. As you can see you have got a port here on the side for running that hose out of.
I would just like to point out a few features that Gregory puts on their packs that I really like. They use a nice quality webbing so when you are doing adjustments on your buckles and straps it slides really easily. You don’t have to fight with it. They also have a stiff-ened zipper pull. This is really easy to grab on to and work those zippers. This is kind of a nice extra feature that makes working that pack day in and day out even nicer.
