Exped SIM Comfort 10 DLX Inflation Video

Hi, I’m Kaj Bune from Exped in North America. We are here in Zurich, Switzerland at Exped headquarters with Andy Brun, head innovator here at Exped. Andy is going to walk us through the inflation of the SIM Comfort 10 DLX mat. Andy?

Thanks Kaj. Now the SIM Comfort 10 DLX, the SIM stands for self inflating mat and the 10 for 10 centimeters, so this is one of the thickest mats on the market [and one of] the most comfortable. This mat comes in quite a loose sack so that when you deflate it, you do not have to push too hard to get it back in the bag.

I will get it out like you are coming into camp and then as you can see here there are actually two valves. They are flat and do not protrude in any way so they are really well protected. It is written on them what they do, so this one is for inflation and this one is for deflation. Just pull the one with the tab, which is the inflation valve, pull it up and you will hear how it sucks in air immediately. So now let it grow and you can go make some tea or whatever you want to do.

There is actually at both sides, on all the DLX mats, Velcro so that you can attach two mats or even more mats today. Now I am back after about ten minutes. I have put the mat into the tent and just let it sit there so it could self inflate itself. You see that it is pretty full now. However, when you buy a mat brand new, let it sit there for 24 hours, preferable in a warm place, so that the inner foam can get back to the original state. Some people really prefer it much more firm so you can give it some breaths. As you see it is pretty easy and there is no danger that any air can flow back because on the inside you have this green flapper that hinders the air from coming out.

To close the valve now you just push with your thumb and go around the cap with the other. And there you are. If you think that this is too firm for you, even when you are lying on it and you want to soften it a bit, just reach over onto the fabric pull that indicates that this is the inflation valve. Open it up and press down on the inner flapper as much as you want until you reach your comfort point. Then close it again and there you are. So have a nice sleep.
