The warm (R-value of 4.8), multi-purpose Therm-a-Rest Women's Trail Lite self-inflating mattress is designed specifically for campers as well as budget-minded backpackers who want one mattress that can do it all.
We are taking a closer look at the Therm-a-Rest Women’s Trail Lite Sleeping Pad. This is the quality and durability you would expect from Therm-a-Rest, but you have got decades of durable technology in their sleeping pad construction.
In this pad you have got open cell foam on the inside. So this is a semi self inflating pad. And what I love about these types of pads is when you get to your campsite, backpacking, camping, whatever you are doing, you open that very durable valve and the foam on the inside acts like a sponge with air. So it soaks up all of that air on the inside and it does most of the work for you. So what I normally do when I get to the campsite, open up that valve, let it sit there for, you know, 15 or 20 minutes while I do other things. And once I get back to the sleeping pad, you just inflate it the rest of the way. It doesn’t take that much effort and then go ahead and close that valve.
Something else that I really love about the valve here is once I inflate it, I normal inflate it as much as I can and then I lay on it. And you can reach back and adjust that valve. It lets you sink into the pad a little bit and adjust the firmness or softness of the pad. So a really great feature there. And we will just go through all of the rest of the features and the durable, yet budget friendly design of this pad.
With that open cell foam core in this pad, you have a 4.9 R value, which is going to cover most seasons and most temperatures. If you are in the coldest of temperatures, and you want to use this pad, I would suggest maybe mating it with a closed cell foam pad under-neath to give you a little bit more warmth. But because this is a women’s version, Therm-a-Rest does have a little bit more added warmth in key areas on this pad. So it is not just standard foam in there. There is a lot of technology that goes into the foam that they use.
It is die cut in places, so it saves a little bit of weight. You have kind of a mummy shape with this pad, so they cut the corners to save a little bit of weight there. But you have definitely got firmness in place where you need it and, like I said, they do remove some foam in some places to make it a little bit softer. So a really smart construction there underneath of this fabric.
Going to the fabrics here, you have a nice soft brush finish on the fabric. So unlike some crinkly pads that make noise when you are sleeping on it, this isn’t going to be noisy at night. It is pretty silent as you sleep on it. So if you are someone who minds that crunchy or crinkly sound of some other pads, this might be the right option for you.
And the fabric on here is really soft. So you don’t have to worry about it, you know, being crinkly or shiny.
Underneath you do have very durable material and just all the seams here, the valve and everything is just really durable, that durable construction you would expect from Therm-a-Rest.
The women’s version of the Trail Lite comes in two sizes: regular and long. I have go the regular here. It is 20 inches wide at the widest point and 66 inches long. For both of them you have a one and a half inch thickness. So you have got some clearance from the ground to give you comfort there. And the large version of this pad is 20 inches wide and 72 inches long if you do need that extra length.
Therm-a-Rest does include a stuff sack with this. So it makes it really easy and convenient to just roll that down, push all the air out of it and store it in the stuff sack.
All in all you have got a really reliable, comfortable and budget friendly sleeping pad for four season use.
It is the Therm-a-Rest Women’s Trail Lite Sleeping Pad.
