A no-frills option for first-time campers or cost-conscious backpackers, the Therm-a-Rest Trail Scout sleeping pad offers self-inflating comfort and convenience at an affordable price. The streamlined shape reduces weight and bulk.
An expandable foam core provides the self-inflating Trail Scout with an R-value of 3.4 and makes the pad incredibly easy to use. Simply unroll the pad and open the valve. Open-celled foam responds by soaking up air, similar to the way in which a sponge absorbs liquid. Once the Trail Scout has had time to inflate, you can adjust firmness by manually adding or releasing air before re-tightening the valve.
The Therm-a-Rest Trail Scout sleeping pad is available in three sizes. The Small measures 20" x 47", the Regular measures 20" x 72" and the Large measures a full 25" x 77". A stuff sack (included) aids in packability and provides water-resistant protection.

Real Customer Reviews
- Exactly what I was looking for.
Likes: I wanted a small, lightweight pad that would cushion the ground when camping. This comes with a bag to put it in and quickly and effortlessly compressed down to fit in the bag. It isn’t super thick, but provides just enough support to keep the bumps on the ground from annoying you during the night.
Dislikes: I’m not sure it the pad is quite 1” thick as advertised, but it provides enough support to be effective.
- Works well
Likes: Compact and durable. Maximum comfort for price point.
- good light weight inexpensive choice
Likes: has a good r rating, lightweight and doesn't make crinkly noises like some others. added enough comfort for me.
- Comfortable and lite
Likes: Great pad for backpacking 1lb 6oz .It's only 1" thick , but when you unroll it and put a couple breaths of air in it.it's just enough to keep you from feeling the ground and I'm 200 lbs.Great price when you compare other similar lite weight pads.
Dislikes: The packed size is a little bulky. It comes folded in half long way , then rolled, so its around 6" by 11". You can roll it with out folding in half around4" by 20" and putt in a stuff sack and strap it next to your tent on the outside of your backpack and have more room in your pack.
- All you need
Likes: Less expensive then other self inflating and just as good. 5'5" male side/stomach sleeper, picked up a small for less weight/bulk. Very happy.
Dislikes: Has a plastic feel. Make yourself a fitted sheet if nothing is between you and it.
Likes: Really comfortable. If you are a side sleeper this is the pad for you! Easy to inflate.
Dislikes: Not "self inflating" as advertised; however, it's very simple to blow up.
Likes: Comfy, lightweight
