The Slacker Hammock Bug Cover from Therm-a-Rest is designed to protect hammock users from pesky winged predators. Enjoy your time in the backyard or the backcountry without any concern for mosquitoes, black flies or other insects.
We are taking a look at the Therm-a-Rest Slacker Hammock Bug Shelter. This is a really easy to use bug net that works well with the Therm-a-Rest Slacker Hammock. We will take a look at the setup and the uses of the bug shelter.
The main fabric here is no-see-um netting. This is just really a popular bug net that is both light weight, durable and doesn’t allow those pesky winged insects inside of where you are hanging out.
The bottom of this is a more durable nylon. So this is part of the netting that might come into contact with the ground. So they used a little bit more of a durable material here.
Above me there is a ridge line and that is just regular polyester webbing. When you set this bug net up, it actually just sets up really well with the carabineer that is attached to your Therm-a-Rest Slacker hammock. So all you have to do is put the hammock inside of the bug net. There’s holes on either side that you can cinch down. It is not going to let any bugs in after you have it set up. But you clip it on one side, clip it on the other. You cinch down that little piece on the end so that nothing can get in through that little hole and then you just make sure everything is set up and nice and tight. There is a really big open zipper here that allows easy access in and out so you don’t have to worry about, you know, crawling through a small hole or anything like that.
There are four guy-out points that are optional. One of them is right here. There is one on the other side and then two on the other side of this hammock. So if you want to stake those out you can. It doesn’t come with guy-out lines or stakes. You can tie them to trees or into the ground. So just so you have more of a dome around you. But when you are laying in the hammock, due to that ridge line that is above you, you have enough space to kind of move around. You don't feel like the net is claustrophobic at all.
It comes with an included stuff sack. So you can pack this down to be pretty small. On a back packing trip I can see it being a little bit cumbersome to pack down and throw in your pack if you are carrying all of your gear, but it would be the perfect addition to a camp site, if you are car camping, back yards, a trip to the beach, anywhere that you want to relax and have protection from insects.
It is the Therm-a-Rest Slacker Bug Shelter.
