Utilizing the same UV technology used to purify water in municipal treatment facilities and hospitals, the ultra-lightweight, compact and rechargeable SteriPEN Freedom water purifier allows you enjoy safe drinking water wherever you go!

The lightweight (2.6 oz), compact SteriPEN Freedom water purifier allows you to enjoy safe drinking water wherever you go! Utilizing the same technology used to purify water in municipal treatment facilities, hospitals and water-bottling plants, the Freedom destroys viruses, bacteria and cysts, including Giardia and Cryptosporidium, by using high-energy Ultraviolet (UV) light. The Freedom is easy to operate and purifies water quickly and efficiently without the need for chemicals or pumping.

Simply fill a 16 ounce glass, plastic, ceramic or metal container with clear water, push the activation button, dip it in the container and stir slightly to agitate the water. Ultraviolet light is invisible to the human eye, but a visible LED light indicates that the Freedom is working and shuts off as soon as a full dose has been delivered. The Ultraviolet light breaks down the DNA of viruses, bacteria and cysts, rendering them harmless. The Freedom purifies 16 ounces of water in just 96 seconds!

Safety features on the Freedom include an optical water sensor, temperature sensors and a fully-enclosed and insulated lamp. Together these features ensure that the Freedom works at optimal performance and its internal components remain fully functional. The bulb that indicates purification is taking place also doubles as an emergency light source, enabling the Freedom to serve as an LED flashlight.

NOTE: Because the penetration of UV light can be limited by discoloration, solids and debris, it is important that clear, unfrozen water be used. The SteriPEN FitsAll Filter or Water Bottle Pre-Filter (both sold separately) can be employed to filter particulate-filled water before UV treatment takes place.

The Freedom is powered by a rechargeable battery and both an AC adapter (U.S. prongs) and a USB cable are included for recharging purposes. The Freedom's electronics are designed to activate only as long as there is enough battery power available to produce the required UV dosage, so there is no risk of an inadequate dose as batteries run low.

A neoprene carrying case is included with each SteriPEN Freedom microfilter.

I have one of these already. Used in Montana on a family hike worked great, after we found out that after you put a pinch of salt in the water. Not sure the science behind it, but found that after we did it worked every time without fail. Great way to

Likes: The SteriPEN Freedom Water Purifier is one of the lightest non-chemical methods for water treatment presently available.

While it has been out a few years and has seen an update in the form of the SteriPEN Ultra, the Freedom is 66 grams lighter weight than the Ultra, almost 50% less! It is also 2.1 inches shorter and 1/2 thinner.

The trade off for the lighter weight Freedom, over the Ultra, is that the Freedom treatments 20 of 1 liter of water compared to 50 treatments of 1 liter of water for the Ultra.

If you figure 5 liters of water per day, this means you will be able to go four days of being on the trail with the Freedom, and 10 days with the Ultra, until you needed to do a rec

Dislikes: The LED light built into it is cute idea, but it adds a few extra grams of unnecessary weight and has the potential (albeit rare) to turn on and drain the battery.
