Delivering excellent livability and lightweight packability, the Summer Moon 2 tent offers backpackers reliable 3-season performance at a budget-friendly price.
The tent provides 29.2 square feet of interior space and an overhead peak height of 41”. A vestibule in front of the large D-shaped door offers an additional 10.8 square feet of exterior storage space for wet or muddy shoes and gear. An interior mesh pocket increases livability by allowing you to store gear off the ground and an included Night Glow accessory is a light diffusing “shade” that couples with any headlamp (not included) to hang from the ceiling of the tent to serve as a lantern.
The 7001-series aluminum poles grant the tent structure and color-coded clip construction make erecting the tent simple. The freestanding design allows you to pitch the tent and then move it around your campsite to find the optimum position, eliminating an uncomfortable night's sleep over an exposed root or rock. Hex peg stakes are included to ensure a secure, taut pitch.
A full mesh canopy provides great airflow and prevents condensation build-up on the interior of the tent. The PU-coated 68D 190T polyester taffeta rainfly and floor keep the interior of the tent dry. Fully taped seams bolster weather protection. An optional footprint (sold separately) further protects the floor of the Summer Moon 2 against ground water, roots and rocks.

Real Customer Reviews
- Lightweight Budget friendly
Likes: Very lightweight for the price. Extremely easy set up. Awesome mesh allowing a clear view of the stars without the rain fly on.
Dislikes: Rain fly sits high on the backside to encourage more ventilation, ventilation is great but on a high wind night it was very noisy, probably due to guy lines not being tight enough. The rain fly is a little tricky to get tight when setting it up solo.
- Great value for so many features!
Likes: Light weight and packs down very small. Setup is breeze with just 2 identical poles. The “burrito” stuff sack makes it super easy to packup. On the interior, plenty of elevated storage and the included head lamp lantern works great. Very happy with my purchase.
Dislikes: None so far.
- lightweight and easy to assemble
Likes: it's lightweight and very easy to assemble. As a novice (never assembled a tent in my life) I was able to assemble it in the dark with minimal help.
Dislikes: It's definitely on the narrower side in terms of sizing - tight fit for two people but doable.
- great price to weight & comfort ratio
Likes: -light weight
-quality tent poles
-plenty of room for 2 sleeping mats
-“burrito” style stuff sack really easy to pack
-included lamp holder/reflector works really well
Dislikes: -difficult to get fly/vestibules taut
-fly zipper occasionally gets caught on fabric
- Great lightweight tent! Packs down really small
Small packed size
Easy to pack up
Dislikes: Unique poles so hard to replace with carbon fiber ones
- Tent with good balance of weight versus price
Likes: Took this tent on an overnight backpacking trip....my first! After a couple of times I was setting it up like a pro.
I like that it is big enough for me and my pack. Liked that it was fairly lightweight. It was the lightest tent I could find in my budget.
Plenty of gear pockets inside.
Dislikes: This tent won't keep you warm.
This tent would benefit from a velcro loop at the crown to attach the fly to both poles.
Needs more stakes. Before you take it out, stake it out in your yard. I needed 4 extra stakes to cover all possible guy points.
Sierra Designs changed the design of the grommets on the tent but did not update their directions. Also, they should sew the directions in the tent, like everyone else does.
