Utilizing a combination of synthetic and treated-down insulations, the Sierra Designs Frontcountry Bed 600 Syn 2-Season sleeping bag has an innovative, zipperless design and a generous cut that provides campers with performance and comfort.
The Frontcountry Bed 600 SYN 2-Season bag uses a short-staple synthetic insulation on the bottom of the bag to deliver reliable, consistent performance even if the insulation should become wet. The top of the bag is insulated with 600-fill DriDown insulation, a hydrophobic insulation that has the same lightweight compressibility and high-thermal efficiency of down but with better ability to ward off moisture than untreated down. The bag’s 50D Polyester Taffeta shell fabric further protects the insulation from moisture.
By eliminating zippers, Sierra Designs has created a sleeping bag that’s more similar to your down comforter at home than a traditional sleeping bag, though without your comforter’s annoying ability to shift off your body in the middle of the night as you move. You get in the generously-cut Frontcountry Bed through the unique catenary shaped opening that’s smaller than the width of the bag to seal out drafts even when you’re shifting inside. Once settled in, the versatile integrated comforter fits naturally around you and conforms to your preferred sleeping position while also allowing you to easily adjust for varying temperatures. Insulated pockets in the comforter provide a cozy place for your arms and hands to stay warm if you’re not cocooned down inside the bag, or tuck the sides of the comforter around and beneath you when the temperature drops to be fully covered. The top of the bag also allows you to tuck your head inside for insulated warmth much like a hood. The top is also cut broadly enough to accommodate the use of a standard pillow. A unique zipperless foot vent allows you to extend your feet out of the bottom of the bag in balmy weather but effectively retains heat when temperatures require it.
Beyond the zipperless construction, the Frontcountry Bed 600 SYN 2-Season has no additional cords or Velcro to get in the way of comfort, though it does feature a sleeping pad sleeve on the bottom to allow you to even better create a bed-like sleeping experience while spending the night outside.
The Sierra Designs Frontcountry Bed 600 SYN 2-Season sleeping bag is available in Medium (fits up to 6' 0") and Long (up to 6' 6") sizes. A stuff sack and storage sack are included.

Real Customer Reviews
- Nice bag...
Likes: This seems like a nice, cost-effective option for a beginner backpacker who doesn't mind a bit more weight with the down fill on top and the synthetic fill on the bottom. Unsure why it's not more popular, as some of the criticisms I've seen of other 100% down bags by Sierra Design have been the lack of any fill on the bottom of the bag. Materials are nice and color is cheerful without being obnoxious.
Dislikes: Not the bag's fault, but this is for a smaller person. I'm tall with wider hips and this was a little too small, particularly around the mid section. For a smaller framed person under 5'9", I think this would be a good option to consider.
- Cool Design
Likes: I was intrigued by the zipperless design of this sleeping bag and decided to give it a try. It is roomy to get in and out of without a large zipper opening. It's an upgrade my ancient sleeping bag. I like the hood at the top so my pillow doesn't move away in the night. The pad sleeve is great too, keeping me from moving off of the sleeping pad in the night. I love the little hand pockets.
Dislikes: I do move around in the night and I wish there was a way to keep the quilt portion tucked in better. Some sort of optional way to attach it near the top would be nice.
- Met My Expectations
Likes: It's like having that cozy blanket to wrap up in at home. Great for car camping or short backpacking trips.
Dislikes: A little bulky for longer backpacking trips.
