The Sierra Designs Flash 2 tent is a roomy, freestanding, external-pitch tent that provides ventilated refuge in a matter of seconds. Two doors and two gear closets supply easy access and storage, while steep walls give an open feel when you’re inside.
The Flash 2 offers 28.9 square feet of usable interior space, making it comfortable for two people and luxuriously spacious for solo campers. Dual gear closets are accessed from inside the tent to keep gear storage out of the way of the doors and provide an additional combined 10 square feet (5 sq. ft. per closet) of sheltered space for stashing larger items like packs and boots.
When wet weather threatens, the quick, external pitch set-up provides a dry, well-ventilated space in a matter of seconds, while the reflective door trim and guy outs make finding your tent in the dark an easy task. Another cool feature is the inclusion of the Sierra Designs Night Glow accessory, a light diffusing “shade” that couples with any headlamp (not included) to hang from the ceiling of the tent to serve as a backpacking/camping lantern.
The hybrid double/single wall design of the Flash 2 adds stability without weight, while ultra-light clips, DAC Pressfit aluminum poles and uncommonly large single drop doors add to the list of great features. The trail weight of the tent is 5 pounds, 7 ounces.
Ample mesh on the tent body and the dual doors maximize cross ventilation and provide circulation to fight condensation build-up in the Flash 2. Coated with waterproof polyurethane, the nylon taffeta floor and polyester taffeta rainfly are lightweight and durable. The rainfly also has venting to create internal airflow. All of the Flash 2’s seams are tape-sealed to protect the tent interior from the elements.
A custom-fit footprint (sold separately) can be used to further protect the floor of the Sierra Designs Flash 2 against rocks, exposed roots, mud and ground water.

- Awesome 2 Person Tent
Likes: Bought this tent for all its features and price. I really liked having the gear closets on the sides of the tent. It eliminated tripping over your bag or other gear. We tried it out in my yard, and was going to spray it down with the hose to test the waterproofing and was luckily able to have some rain, it was nice to be able to see outside while it was raining out knowing we wouldn't get wet. It's roomy with my wife and her little dog and myself. I never felt cramped, at 6' tall I could stretch out and touch both ends. The dual doors is perfect for me, because my wife is up a lot at night and this will allow her to not have to climb over me. The weight isn't an issue as we'll be splitting the weight between my wife and I.
Dislikes: The main poles are of great construction, but installing them into the sleeve was a chore and took a bit of effort to put them into the grommets. The gear doors are a little smaller, and could be an issue with larger packs, but I found that my Gregory Baltoro 65 fit through the door with only slight issues with the hip belt snagging the opening. If you're using this tent for a single person it would be super roomy, but the weight will be a problem at 5lb.
- Great tent highly recommend
Likes: Great ventilation also it closes up quite tight if it gets cold. Very easy to setup. I have read that pushing the poles through the sleeves was difficult however I found it quite easy.
Dislikes: A little heavy for backpacking
