With a roomy, double-wide design, the innovative Sierra Designs Backcountry Bed Duo 700 20 Degree zipperless sleeping bag provides couples with plush comfort and 3-season warmth. Featuring DriDown water-resistant down, this unique bag offers all condition performance for warm-weather backpacking or camping.
Renowned for their efficiency in retaining heat and compressible properties, the feathers and fibers of down have an incredibly soft, comfortable feel, and despite advances in synthetic materials, continue to provide the best warmth-to-weight ratio of any insulation available. The one inherent weakness of down insulation is that it loses much of its ability to maintain warmth when it gets wet, but the bag’s 700-fill DriDown performs differently. Employing a unique, innovative polymer application, DriDown actually creates a hydrophobic finish on each individual plume of down. This treatment results in insulation that stays dry longer, dries faster, and better retains its insulating qualities than traditional down-filled bags. A 20D polyester ripstop shell further protects the insulation from the elements.
By eliminating zippers, Sierra Designs has created a sleeping bag that’s more similar to your down comforter at home than a traditional sleeping bag, though without your comforter’s annoying ability to shift off your body in the middle of the night as you move. You can get in the bag through the unique catenary shaped opening that’s smaller than bag width to seal out drafts even when you’re shifting inside. Once settled in, the versatile integrated comforter fits naturally around you and conforms to your preferred sleeping position while also allowing you to easily adjust for varying temperatures. Insulated pockets in the comforter provide a cozy place for your arms and hands to stay warm if you’re not cocooned down inside the bag, or tuck the sides of the comforter around and beneath you when the temperature drops to be fully ensconced; the top of the bag also allows you to tuck your head inside for insulated warmth much like a hood. A stretch cord closure system allows you to completely seal out drafts. Unique zipperless, self-sealing foot vents allow you to extend your feet out of the bottom of the bag in balmy weather but effectively retain heat when temperatures require it. Sleeves on the bottom of the bag let you pair it directly to sleeping pads (pads not included) to even better create a bed-like sleeping experience while spending the night outside.
The Sierra Designs Backcountry Bed Duo 700 20 Degree sleeping bag fits up to 6’ 4”. A stuff sack and storage sack are included.

- Warm Wife, Happy Life
Likes: My wife and I LOVE this sleeping bag. My wife is always cold and always experiences cold feet when sleeping, but this sleeping bag is SO warm — even for her! We’re currently using this bag as we finish our southbound thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail and have experienced overnight temps as low as 30 degrees and have been toasty. It’s so big and covers us completely, and I love how the blanket comes all the way up and can cover your face. This bag doesn’t let drafts in like our last down blanket did and this one is so soft. I love the hand pockets too. We’ve been getting exceptional sleep in this bag and would definitely recommend it!
Dislikes: It did come with a compression sack, which was hidden in the bottom of the foot box, I just wish it compressed a little bit more for thru-hiking, but the warmth and comfort we get on cold nights makes is worth it!
- Finally, smart backpacking for families!
Likes: I like that it is roomy, comfortable, lightweight, and a generally smart design. You can poke your feet out the bottom if you like to regulate your temperature or keep feet tucked in. Also, the pads fit into the bottom of this bed (up to 25" wide pads). We use 2 Big Agnes SLX pads, extra wide and long. It's like sleeping on a large mattress at home that you don't slide off of.
The oversized quilt - brilliant!
Dislikes: It's pricey, but if you compare the price of 2 individual sleeping bags, it's reasonable. Otherwise, no issues as of yet.
