The innovative Sierra Designs Backcountry Bed 800F 3-Season zipperless sleeping bag lets you sleep in the great outdoors with similar comfort to your bed at home whether you’re a back, side or stomach sleeper. Featuring 800 fill duck DriDown water-resistant down and strong nylon ripstop shell fabric for waterproof protection, the Backcountry Bed 800F 3-Season is a high-quality, extremely durable and comfortable bag for 3-season backpacking.
Renowned for their efficiency in retaining heat and compressible properties, the feathers and fibers of down have an incredibly soft, comfortable feel, and despite advances in synthetic materials, continue to provide the best warmth-to-weight ratio of any insulation available. The one inherent weakness of down insulation is that it loses much of its ability to maintain warmth when it gets wet, but the DriDown featured in the Backcountry Bed 800F 3-Season bag performs differently. Employing a unique, innovative polymer application, DriDown actually creates a hydrophobic finish on each individual plume of down. This treatment results in insulation that stays dry up to 10 times longer and dries 33% faster, should it become wet, than untreated down bags.
By eliminating zippers, Sierra Designs has created a sleeping bag that’s more similar to your down comforter at home than a traditional sleeping bag, though without your comforter’s annoying ability to shift off your body in the middle of the night as you move. Get in the Backcountry Bed through the unique catenary shaped opening that’s smaller than bag width to seal out drafts even when you’re shifting inside. Once settled in, the versatile integrated comforter fits naturally around you and conforms to your preferred sleeping position while also allowing you to easily adjust for varying temperatures. Insulated pockets in the comforter provide a cozy place for your arms and hands to stay warm if you’re not cocooned down inside the bag, or tuck the sides of the comforter around and beneath you when the temperature drops to be fully ensconced; the top of the bag also allows you to tuck your head inside for insulated warmth much like a hood. A unique zipperless foot vent allows you to extend your feet out of the bottom of the bag in balmy weather but effectively retains heat when temperatures require it.
Beyond the zipperless construction, the Backcountry Bed 800F 3-Season has no additional cords or Velcro to get in the way of comfort, though it does feature a sleeping pad sleeve on the bottom to allow you to even better create a bed-like sleeping experience while spending the night outside.
The Sierra Designs Backcountry Bed 800F 3-Season sleeping bag is available in Regular (fits up to 6' 0") and Long (fits up to 6' 6") sizes. A stuff sack and storage sack are included.

Real Customer Reviews
- Best sleeping bag I've ever purchased.
Likes: Pack size, weight, comfort, warmth. If you are late fall and winter camping, down bags are the only way to go. I always hated how restrictive zippered sleeping bags were, especially the mummy bags. This bag takes care of all issues. I worried about how warm this bag would be with no zipper, but worry no more. I've had it in temps below 15 degrees and was comfortable. I've used it for 3 seasons now. It's the only bag I use, period.
- Very warm, comfortable, compact
Likes: Warm for cold temperatures, most comfortable sleeping bag, great for stomach and side sleepers
- So awsome
Likes: I like that there are no zippers, Velcro or drawstrings to fiddle with. I can sleep on my side, back or stomach. I like the feeling of bed covers. The pad or mattress pocket is brilliant so you don't slide off.
- Fantastic product
Likes: Comfiest sleeping bag ever.
Packs down nice and small with a compression sack. Can move around in multiple sleeping positions with this bag. I love the ability to let just my feet out of the bag, too.
I don't miss having a zipper.
Dislikes: There's no insulation on the bottom, so you have to use it with a sleeping pad.
- Simple and flexible sleeping bag
Likes: Works great with NeoAIR XTherm MAX sleeping pad giving flexibility for variety of sleeping positions in comfort.
Dislikes: Lower portion of the bag where the legs are can get a bit warm/hot.
Likes: Great design..
Dislikes: I would like just a little more width in the lower area around my knees..
Likes: Took this sleeping bag on a 5 night backcountry hike in the Rocky Mountain National Park. Despite 48 hours of continuous rain, this bag worked perfectly. Loved the low weight and could really compress it down into a 10L drybag and still fit some clothes in there. The quilt function really allows you options with regards to temperature control. So much more comfortable than a traditional mummy bag!
Dislikes: No complaints!
Likes: I have been looking for a bag like this for a while , lofts up great , lots of room up in the top end , should work great right up till winter and even then with a woobie or an over quilt should be just fine
Dislikes: Didn't like the price too much but there is really nothing else out there similar to this outside of some of the high end quilts , took off 1 star for price
Likes: Unique and thoughtful design. Truly feels like having your comforter. Warm or cold, this bag works better than any traditional bag I have owned. There is a better way out there and Sierra Design designed it with this bag.
Dislikes: I have no dislikes. A suggestion to improve the bag would be to incorporate a little stretch to the fabric.
Likes: So far, I've taken the Backcountry Bed out on one test trip. I was very happy with it -- it's the most comfortable sleeping bag I've ever used. I tend to get very sweaty in sleeping bags, and with the BB, I was able to fold down the "blanket" to dry off. Plus I was able to move around inside of the bag. This bag also packs down very compactly.
Dislikes: It would be nice if the provided stuff sack was waterproof to protect the down bag.
