While backpacking boots are known for their stability, they can also be heavy and cumbersome. The Salomon Men's Quest 4D 2 GTX boot draws upon Salomon’s trail running heritage to offer waterproof protection and excellent support in an extra light package that doesn't compromise on responsiveness and agility.
The Men's Quest 4D 2 GTX features a nubuck leather and water-resistant textile upper that provides a comfortable fit while strategic overlays improve durability and increase stability. A waterproof/breathable GORE-TEX Performance Comfort bootie keeps feet dry, and a gusseted tongue further ensures protection against moisture and debris. Self-locking eyelets keep laces in place, allowing you to dial in the fit. Extended padding above the protective rubber heel cup delivers extra comfort while stretch fabric at the top rear of the boot helps to keep dust and debris from sneaking inside.
Under foot, Salomon’s 4D Advanced Chassis offers the support and protection required for backpacking while remaining ultra- lightweight. Molded EVA foam in the midsole maximizes comfort. An EVA-shaped footbed and OrthoLite insole further enhance comfort and fit.
The non-marking Contragrip outsole utilizes aggressive lugs to deliver enhanced traction. The rubber toe cap protects your toes from rocks and roots.Sold in pairs, the Salomon Men's Quest 4D 2 GTX backpacking boot is available in men's full and half sizes.

Real Customer Reviews
- It is a great boot!
Likes: Lots of support
Dislikes: Feels almost like a ski boot
- Great Boot
Likes: Very comfortable, seems slightly large in the width the length is true. I really like the lace lock in the location it is in you can keep the lower part snugged up and the upper a little looser for circulation.
Dislikes: None at this time.
- Great boots!
Likes: Fairly light, comfy, great support, used with Sofsole Athlete inserts and Dr Scholl's pro arch support and Darn Tough Socks, no breakin, went about 18 miles and 3 ADK high peaks, no pain and no blisters after 12 hours! Sizing is key. I returned the 11.5 for size 11 for a snug fit, still room for toes, but no foot movement. Love them!
- Comfortable, sturdy, and ready for the trail
Likes: Adjustability, quality, support, and capabilities. These boots are pretty much ready to go out of the box. It have put maybe 4-5 heavy days into them and they flex nicely now. If you wanted to do some casual day hikes, I am pretty sure they would be great right out of the box.
Dislikes: The lace locks are very aggressive and definitely feels like it will reduce the life of the laces. That is okay though, because it does keep the boot feeling very secure over long treks.
- Very happy with these boots. Great build and quality. Wider toe box than my St. Elias.
Likes: Lightweight. Support. Cost.
