Employing a unique design concept that offers flex, fit and support along with a multi-fit footbed system and GORE-TEX weather protection, the Salewa Mountain Trainer Mid GTX backpacking boot offers technical performance and sturdy, lightweight comfort for long day hikes on rugged mountain trails or multi-day backpacking trips.

A full suede leather upper, combined with a 360-degree, sticky rubber rand around the base of the boot, offers excellent protection on rough and rocky surfaces and improves traction on steep, technical climbs or Via Ferrata routes. In wet or snowy weather, a GORE-TEX performance comfort membrane keeps water out of the boot while allowing your foot to breathe.

Salewa's footwear is based on their Three Functions System which consists of Fit, Flex and Support. The Fit Function creates an anatomical fit that works with the asymmetry of the human foot and results in less movement in the heel of the boot, less rubbing and less potential for blisters. Salewa's Flex Function allows the collar of the boot to move more independently from the upper which results in unbeatable ankle flex for an agile stride and better performance on the trail or on rocky slopes. When moving sideways on steep slopes your ligaments are often pushed to their limits. Salewa's Support Function provides full ankle support while still offering freedom of movement.

The connection of the Salewa "Y" to the 3D lacing spreads the lacing force onto the whole foot and controls the movement of the heel better while the lace-to-toe design allows users to get a more custom fit at the toe of the boot. The Mountain Trainer Mid GTX also offers a unique footbed that allows individual adjustment of the fit through Salewa's Multi-Fit foot bed system. The bottom layer can be easily removed from this two-part foot bed to increase the volume within the boot for wider feet or left intact for medium to lower volume feet. A MID-STIFF nylon midsole creates a stiff yet flexible platform for full underfoot protection when descending or climbing rocky ridges and the Vibram Mulaz outer sole provides the ideal mixture of durability and grip for on and off trail travel.

Sold in pairs, the Salewa Mountain Trainer Mid GTX backpacking boot is available in full and half sizes.

Likes: My favorite boots-I wear them all the time. Excellent comfort and rugged boot design. Features such as Gortex lining will serve well in the changing weather conditions. They look good too!

Dislikes: N/A

Likes: Great tread and grippy front. Order 1/2 size larger.

Dislikes: pinched at the top of the boot. felt like a rivet was popping through and rubbing against my upper foot.

Likes: The sole is plenty stiff to allow for carrying heavier packs and offers ample traction. The boot has ample ankle support.

Dislikes: The boot seems somewhat formless and generic in nature; but, this may be a plus...the lacing extends far into the toe box to allow for custom lacing of various areas of the boot to allow for a somewhat custom fit.

Likes: These are great boots if they fit your feet. Great design and looks. I really liked the full lacing to the toes and the grip. The vibram sole seemed to have more grip than your typical boot.

Dislikes: These boots didn't fit my feet at all. After wearing for only a few minutes in the house I could feel a hotspot starting to form on my heal. Wearing any length of time would result in some nasty blisters. thank you Backcountry Edge for being so wonderful to work with and returning the boots!!
