Reflecting Ruff Wear’s commitment to complete adjustability and a customized fit the Approach Pack enables your four-legged hiking companion to accompany you on your adventures with his or her very own pack in tow! Two large zippered compartments provide ample room for food water bowls and other gear.
The pack's low profile saddlebags are designed to withstand the rigors of backcountry activity provide storage space and keep the load comfortably balanced. A weight-forward design makes certain that the load is properly situated to avoid hampering your dog's natural gait. A contoured athletic cut provides a close-fitting performance fit. Eliminating the need for extraneous straps a patented Web Master spider-web harness provides superior fit load-carrying stability and support. The interior lining of the harness utilizes foam to cushion weight and protect your dog from excessive rubbing and hot spots. Your dog is further protected by a fleece-lined covering that wraps around the pack's woven straps. Reflective trim adds visibility and makes the pack easy to spot at night.
Side release buckles and sturdy hardware make the pack easy to take on and off and provide multiple adjustment points to ensure that your dog enjoys the best possible fit. With comfort and safety in mind Ruff Wear has strategically tucked the buckles beneath fabric to cut down on hot spots and irritation.
An integrated handle on the top of the pack allows you to easily carry it when your dog isn't wearing it and serves as an assistance handle when your dog needs a helping hand for on-trail obstacles. Zippers on the saddlebags ensure that the contents of the pack remain secure.
The Ruff Wear Approach Pack is also available in your choice of color and size. Please reference the Size Chart for Ruff Wear’s measurement instructions and suggested fit. NOTE: For in-between sizes choose the smaller pack for a lighter load and less bulk.

Real Customer Reviews
- Works Well
Likes: Very spacious, a lot of room for my dog's bowls, water bottle and other items. I like the smaller zippers as well. Love the handle on the top to be able to easily pick up my dog as well.
Dislikes: Little difficult to adjust the straps.
- Great for long hikes
Likes: I've had this pack for just shy of a year and my bluetick coonhound and I love it!! It fits everything I need and I still have more room in it if I needed it. Usually I go for 10-15 mile day hikes and I put 6 standard water bottles in it (3 each side), plus a bag of food/treats, and my dog's collapsible water bowl. I love that my dog can carry his own weight on our hikes so I can take him everywhere with me. I did notice he got warm if we started a hike later in the day in the texas sun, but Ruffwear also makes a "core cooler" that attaches directly to the straps of this pack and cools his chest/stomach. How awesome is that?
All in all, this is a great pack and if you're in the market I wouldn't think twice about buying this!
- Roomy Pack, Easy to Adjust
Likes: Well made; Bright color; padded straps; Ample storage space for day hike or overnight. Definitely takes getting used to on your dog. When I first put it on my English Golden, she froze like I'd put a straight jacket on her. Recommend wear around house / short walks before hitting the trail.
Dislikes: Wish this model came with the hydration bags.
- Comfortable, relatively low profile.
Likes: This pack is basically a Webmaster harness with added packs, though the packs are very well integrated into the design, and not at all something I'd worry about separating. Can lift my border collie with the same amount of ease and comfort as the Webmaster, and the packs don't get in the way of that motion.
Dislikes: The packs are a bit awkward to zip/unzip at first. This is partially due to them being new and the zippers still being a bit slow, but the other reason is that its awkward for the dog, as it tugs on the pack as a whole when you open it. However, this seems like it will be less of an issue once the pack is a bit more broken in, and you can hold the harness still with one hand while you zip/unzip the packs if your dog wants to follow the tug.
- Quality Backpack
Likes: Adjustable and high quality item, great fit on an awkwardly shaped Staffordshire Terrier.
Dislikes: None so far!
