Learn how to properly measure your dog’s girth using a soft measuring tape or string.
Reflecting Ruffwear’s commitment to complete adjustability and a customized fit, the Approach Pack enables your four-legged hiking companion to accompany you on your adventures with his very own pack in tow! Two large zippered saddlebags provide ample room for food, water, bowls and other gear.
The Approach Pack's low-profile saddlebags are designed to withstand the rigors of backcountry activity, provide storage space and keep the load comfortably balanced. A weight-forward design makes certain that the load is ideally situated to avoid hampering your dog's natural gait. A contoured, athletic cut provides your dog with a close-fitting performance fit. Eliminating the need for extraneous straps, a patented Web Master spider-web harness provides superior fit, load-carrying stability and support. The interior lining of the harness utilizes foam to cushion the weight and protect your dog from excessive rubbing and hot spots. Your dog is further protected from rub by a fleece-lined covering that wraps around the Approach Pack's woven straps. Reflective trim adds visibility and makes the Approach Pack easy to spot at night.
Side release buckles and sturdy hardware make the Approach Pack easy to take on and off and provide multiple adjustment points to ensure that your dog enjoys the best possible fit. With your dog’s comfort and safety in mind, Ruffwear has strategically tucked the buckles beneath fabric to cut down on hot spots and irritation.
An integrated handle on the top of the Approach Pack allows you to easily carry the pack when your dog isn't wearing it and serves as an assistance handle when your dog needs a helping hand for on-trail obstacles. Waterproof zippers on the saddlebags ensure that the contents of the pack remain dry and secure.
The Ruffwear Approach Pack is also available in your choice of color and size. Please reference the sizing chart for measurement instructions and suggested fit. NOTE: For in-between sizes, choose the smaller pack for a lighter load and less bulk.

Likes: The size is good. feels like high quality material.
Dislikes: I found it difficult to adjust when back is on dog. Also found it very difficult to get the back on the dog. Would be nice if all straps that went around dog were clips so I did not have to bend my dogs leg up so high to fit in the loops. Plan on returning, possibly to get palisades because the harness on that one is detachable and it would make it easier to put on dog
Likes: Well made & plenty of space for water, food, folding bowl, & towel. Fit my husky well & seems like it will not shift side-to-side like her old pack did
Likes: I like the chest plate fit as it allows straps to sit further back and not(thus far) rub the inside or her elbows. Also really like the color and the relfective stripes, especially since our first run of the day is usally before sunrise. Also, the main purpose of the pack was to provide her an opportunity to "work" and this pack is great for that- she can carry her own bags, treats, water etc. Life time guarentee was also a selling point.
Dislikes: I wish there was an easier way to "hide" the "extra" pieces of strap and an easier way to secure the 2nd strap under the smmall "latch." These are not huge problems, given that she can wear the pack wihtout it causing "friction burns." However, these problems add several minutes to our routine in the morning, including her first trip "out" after 8 hours of sleep.
Likes: Great fit, lots of space and easy access, easy to adjust and no rub spots yet! Lots of padding and doesn't slide around around him, even on full run. Big fan of the blue color too.
Dislikes: My only complaint is there were no directions what so ever included. Some instruction on ideal adjustment and positioning for the specific pack would have been nice. My dogs not a huge fan of the whole pack coming at his face to go over his head, but he is learning to tolerate it because it's associated with hiking trips.
