Designed to be a versatile and incredibly breathable mid- or outer layer option for cold weather activities, the Rab Women’s Strata Hoodie will move with you no matter how hard you’re working (or playing).
I am wearing the Rab Women’s Strata Hoodie. This is an incredible versatile, extremely breathable piece that is both light weight and very warm for its weight. This is a perfect piece for back packing, hiking, climbing where you need a lot of stretch and a lot of movement. It is also great for travel and every day use.
This is a synthetic insulated jacket and it is insulated with a polar tech alpha. So you have got a very light weight, extremely breathable insulation in there, very high quality materials. And the outer shell is pertex micro light. So you get a lot of weather protection against light snow or a light rain. It is not a completely water proof jacket, but you do get a lot of protection there and also a little bit of wind resistance.
The real stand out feature of this jacket is that polar tech alpha insulation. So if I unzip the jacket and just kind of peel back there is different materials in different parts of this jacket. So there is a lot of body mapping going on. If you are working up a sweat, perspiring, this jacket is going to dry out really quickly. And also if you stop to take a break, this jacket is going to keep you toasty warm even through those different temperatures.
Going though the features of the jacket, they are pretty streamlined and simple. There is one interior chest pocket and this is a double zipper so you can actually turn the jacket inside out in this pocket and store it. It packs down to be really small and really compressible so you can throw it in your pack when you are not using it.
Down at the bottom hem you have a stretchy draw cord here on both sides so you can cinch that down and the back actually has a dropped hem, so as you move it is not going to ride up on you. You’ve got two hand warmer pockets here. These is a nice hidden zipper on this pocket. So, you know, when you are not using it have a really clean look with this jacket. But there is a nice fleece material on the inside of this pocket so for chilly hands it is really nice to warm those up.
Moving up to the collar you have a little bit longer of a collar than on most simple jackets like this. So if you just want to zip it up to protect your face and keep your neck warm you can do that. But you also have a really nice stretchy hood. As this is the hooded version you just have a Lycra stretch around the hood so it has a really nice fit and really nice stretch if you are using it with a helmet.
Down here at the cuff you just have a stretch elastic cuff. There is no adjustability there, but it fits really nice with a glove or just over your hand.
The fit and feel of this jacket is really great. Right now I am wearing a European size 10 and it fits nice. It is an active fit, so it is pretty trim. If you would want to get some heavier layers underneath of it, you might want to go up in size, a size 12 might be a little more fitting for me just so I can get layers underneath. I just have a basic base layer on and it fits really well. I can still move in it, but I don't have a lot of extra room for layers.
I normally wear smalls in most other brands, just to give you an idea for size.
Super comfortable piece, really breathable. So as you are moving any activity you can throw at it, it is definitely going to be able to handle. So day to day, traveling, climbing, back packing, you name it, this jacket is going to be great.
