Designed to be a versatile and incredibly breathable mid- or outer layer option for cool or cold weather activities, the Rab Men’s Strata Hoodie will move with you no matter how hard you’re working (or playing).
With its innovative synthetic insulation and a highly wind and water resistant shell, the award winning Rab Men’s Strata Hoodie is an excellent balance of warmth and breathability that makes it perfect for cool and cold weather aerobic activities. Let’s take a closer look at its fit and features.
The Strata hoodie has a pertex micro light outer shell, a nice light weight fabric, highly wind resistant. While not waterproof, you do get a high measure of water resistance. The warmth from the jacket is provided by polar tech alpha. It is a synthetic insulation so unlike down which can lose its ability to keep you warm if it should become wet, you have got better all weather performance from polar tech alpha. That insulation is also hung in sheets. So instead of individual pieces of insulation that can move or migrate and result in some inconsistent warmth, you get great consistency from polar tech alpha.
There is some zone construction on the jacket. So you have got warmth where you need it most and less warmth in those areas where you it just simply isn’t needed. And, again, there is an aerobic mind set to the jacket that expects that you are going to be busy winter hiking, back packing, skiing, maybe climbing and so that zone construction is really a key component to the performance you can expect from the Strata hoodie.
The jacket certainly has a generous enough cut that you can wear layers beneath it. I have got a base layer and mid layer beneath this jacket today and it fits great. But if you are going out in really nasty weather, it is also trim enough that you could put a hard shell over it for some bolstered protection in really wet, nasty weather.
As far as fit is concerned, you do have nice elasticity here at the cuffs. So while there is no real adjustability, that does pull in nicely enough that you are getting a great fit regardless. There is some hem adjustability, in fact, there is dual points, one on either side to pull that in, cinch in that fit at the waist.
As the name would suggest, it certainly is a hooded jacket. You could actually with the elasticity here wear it over a helmet, though it would be a pretty low profile helmet, quite honestly. You can wear a helmet over it or, in cases where that is just not in play, you are getting a really nice fit from the hood, nice elasticity to pull that in as well.
There are a few pockets in play on the jacket. You have got zippered hand warmer pockets here in the front, again, with that synthetic insulation across the top there is some pretty good warmth there. Also a zippered pocket here high on the chest keeps valuables kind of closer at hand. That same pocket also doubles as a stuff sack for the jacket so you can put the whole jacket inside that pocket. You have got a zipper on the other side. It gives you quick access to it and you have got a nice compact jacket that you can throw in your pack or into your luggage for travel.
The Rab Men’s Strata Hoodie. You have got that interesting balance and combination of warmth, of breathability, of mobility, makes it a nice aerobic piece whether you are using it as a layering piece or a stand alone in cold weather or in cool weather.
