Weighing a mere 8.4 ounces, the Marmot Quasar Jacket and its 850 fill power goose down insulation deliver ultra-lightweight warmth for everything from backpacking to climbing to around town use.
Ultra light, yet durable, the Marmot Men’s Quasar Jacket is a great option for layering in colder climates or a stand alone jacket in milder temperatures. Let’s take a look at all of its features.
Marmot achieves an ultra light yet durable construction with use of a Pertex Quantum 10D ripstop fabric. So that is a really lightweight and packable face fabric on the jacket that still provides good durability and abrasion resistance.
Under that face fabric there is an 850 goose down insulation. So it is a highly compressible insulation with a really great warmth to weight ratio. So it is a little more compressible and rebounds a little nicer than some of those heavier down filled insulations. So it gets this jacket down to a nice low weight and a really good pack size.
Some other features that we have on the jacket include a full length front zipper. It comes up to a nice collar here. So you have got a nice comfortable insulated collar around the top there. We have got a zippered chest pocket here. So small pocket, easy to get some hands on some smaller items there. You have got two zippered hand pockets down here as well, so nice pockets. The really nice thing about these pockets is the down actually layers over the outside, so it still keeps your hands warm if you are not wearing any gloves.
And down along the bottom we do have two draw cords on the hem to really cinch down that jacket and keep in the warm air so it doesn’t keep any of the... let any drafts in.
On the cuffs we do have some elasticity, so they are going to keep that snug against the cuff without being too tight. So you won’t get any drafty air coming up in the sleeves by the wrists. So nice feature there as well.
And, conveniently, this jacket does stuff into its own pocket. So one of these pockets has a double sided zipper and you can turn the jacket inside out on itself and get it down to a nice small pack size for backpacking or travel. You can even use it as a small pillow if you wanted to. So another nice feature for the Quasar jacket.
So this jacket has a standard fit. You can see it has got a little bit of extra room here. I am wearing a medium and I normally do wear mediums. So I do have some room to layer underneath this jacket if I needed to. There is also easy to layer a hard shell or even a soft shell over the top for that extra insulation value.
It is a really compressible jacket. So I could see this being a very easy jacket to layer with. And obviously, I mean, it is easy to wear by itself as well, so a nice jacket. Again, wearing a medium. I normally do wear mediums in Marmot and it fits pretty true to size. So I do like that.
This jacket does have Marmot’s Angel-Wing technology. So it has got really good movement in the shoulders. You can kind of move freely without feeling restricted and it has got just really good movement overall. It is going to let you work and climb or hike, you know, do anything where you may be active and need that freedom of movement, really nice feature with the Angel-Wing technology.
So there you have it. It is the Marmot Men’s Quasar Jacket, a super light, yet durable option for hiking, backpacking or casual wear.
