Whether used independently or with your hammock (sold separately), the Eagles Nest Oufitters (ENO) ProFly XL Sil Rain Tarp offers protection from wet weather. Sprawling dimensions of 13' x 9' 2" ensure that you stay dry and Sil-Nylon construction keeps weight to a minimum.
We are out here with the Eagles Nest Outfitters ProFly XL Sil Rain Tarp. This is a very lightweight, but extra large size rain tarp for hammock camping. This is going to provide a lot of protection from first and foremost from rain, but it also works great as a sunshade and it is going to help with wind as well.
Now this is the extra large version, so it is bigger and wider than some of the other Eagles Nest Outfitters Rain Tarps. It is 13 feet long and then from side to side it is nine feet two inches wide. So you get plenty of coverage. This is going to work with any hammock set up and it is just going to provide all the coverage you need when you are out in the back country.
Now even though it is the extra large size, it is ... it weighs only 26 ounces and it packs down to be pretty small. It comes with an included stuff sack. So you can definitely throw it in your backpack if you do need that extra wide size for the shade. And it is made out of PU coated lightweight sil nylon. That sil nylon is completely waterproof. It has rip stop in it as well, so you have a lot of durability and the fabric is 40 denier. So you do have durability with the fabric, but it is very lightweight.
The thing that I love about these rain tarps is that it is a little bit different, it is unique. It is not like just a regular rectangular rain tarp. You do have ergonomic drip lines, so all along the edges when, you know, rain comes in it is not going to go in underneath of the rain fly and drip on you, it is going to drip down to the ground, so you are definitely going to be protected there. You have a couple of connection points. So this peak here ties on to the trees that your hammock is attached to. We have just got an Eagles Nest Outfitters Single Nest Hammock strung underneath of it. And I like to put it far enough above my hammock that I don’t feel claustrophobic, but close enough that if you have rain coming in sideways you are going to be protected there, so definitely hang it far enough above your hammock.
You have got two tie lines that you can adjust, so what I normally do is I string up the peak tie lines first. I stake them out or I tie them out a little bit loosely and then I kind of center them over top of the hammock and then I go to the other four corners and you can either stake them out if you buy stakes separately. It does not come with stakes. Or you can tie them off to trees, tie them off to rocks or logs which is kind of a set up that we have today.
On the corners there you do have a cinch down cord. So you can definitely stake it out really well, It reminds me of the guy lines on tents. So once you have everything set up loosely, I go around and I just cinch everything down and make it nice and tight, so that way when it starts to rain that rain will bead up and run off.
It is really easy to set up. Again, it works with virtually any hammock. It works with all Eagles Nest Outfitters hammocks and it is going to extend your hammock camping and really take that hammock camping to the next level.
It is the Eagles Nest Outfitters ProFly XL Sil Rain Tarp.
