Delivering programmable, self-adjusting lighting and Bluetooth connectivity, the rechargeable Petzl Nao+ headlamp is an innovative option for hiking, trail running, climbing, or any other demanding low light activity. By analyzing the available ambient light, the headlamp’s intelligent beam adjusts to maximize efficiency.
Petzl’s Reactive Lighting employs an integrated light sensor that measures and analyzes reflected light to instantly and automatically adjust the headlamp’s beam pattern (wide and/or focused) and light output to your needs. Lighting adjusts automatically to the distance of the object in front of you and it adjusts so quickly and indiscernibly that all you’ll notice is that your headlamp gives you the illumination you need in varying conditions. If you’re hiking or running and looking toward the ground in front of you, the beam is wide and at medium strength in order to properly illuminate obstacles in your path. When lifting your head to see further into the distance, the light output increases and becomes more focused.
Two high power LED bulbs produce a standard brightness of up to 750 Lumens on the Reactive Lighting mode or 530 Lumens in the non-adjusting Constant mode. The headlamp is programmable (free downloadable MyPetzl Light app available at App Store and Google Play), allowing you to determine your optimum settings!
The headlamp is powered by a Lithium-Ion 2600 mAh rechargeable battery (included). With the battery, the Nao weighs 6.5 ounces. A battery level indicator light warns you when the charge is nearly depleted. A USB cable is included for recharging. An integrated reserve mode ensures that you have 15 Lumens for up to 2 hours even when the indicator alerts that the battery life is low.
The headlamp is water-resistant and suitable for all-weather use. A tiltable housing enables you to aim its beam where you need it most. A streamlined, adjustable strap provides adjustability for varied head sizes. A top strap is included (not attached) for greater stability. An optional belt kit (sold separately) allows the battery to be worn on a belt or a pack strap, reducing the weight on your head.

Real Customer Reviews
- Worth the price!
Likes: Extended battery life, automatic light adjustment, comfortable to wear, I would highly recommend this to ultra trail runners who spend long hours in the dark
Dislikes: More expensive than most other headlamps, likely not necessary for short night use or around a campground
- Great Light for Overnight Trail Running
Likes: The battery life indicator on the battery (three bars)
The ability to vary the light level using the My Petzl Light app
Easy to use switch (even with gloves on)
The belt kit (not included) to carry battery on pack or belt.
Dislikes: The headband takes some getting use to
- Abundant lumination!
Likes: Kicks the socks off competing lamps that have only ~200 lumens for only a modest increase in weight. Can see the headlamp under street lights and in front of oncoming headlights. Counterbalance build prevents bobbing on the run; lights that don't have this always bob on the run and are infinitely annoying.
Dislikes: None so far.
- Good for hiking and mountaineering
Likes: I like how the self-adjusting tech works in the woods, in a tent, etc. Also quite good for running at night, although the straps are not as comfortable as in my other Petzl light.
Dislikes: The self-adjusting lighting annoys me when used inside my house. I frequently do bike repairs, house cleaning, etc, using headlights. I have to switch to constant lighting to avoid flickering.
