A great all-around soft shell, the Patagonia Women's All Free Jacket resists the wind, breathes well and is soft and quiet, offering versatility for cold weather backpacking, snowshoeing, skiing or climbing.
I am wearing the Patagonia Women’s All Free Soft Shell Jacket. The real story here is that this is a lightweight, yet very abrasion resistant soft shell jacket that is going to stretch and move with you as you climb and hike and travel. This jacket really provides a lot of stretch. So it is extremely comfortable. And even though it is lightweight, there is still a lot of abrasion resistance here. So perfect climbing piece when you need something that is durable, but you don’t want something that is going to weigh you down.
The fabric here on this jacket is a lightweight, double weave soft shell fabric and it is extremely stretchy, as I said. So very, very comfortable. You have a different material here in the cuff. And it is even more stretchy material in the cuff and on the underside of your wrist here, which makes it really comfortable for pulling up your sleeves. So if you are climbing you are pulling up your sleeve, it forms a really comfortable but tight fit there. So you sleeves aren’t going to ride down. There is no actual adjustability in the cuff, so you don't have any bulk there if you are wearing gloves, but the cuff just fits really well.
The features of this jacket are also really simple. You have a full length zipper, a collar up here at the top. And behind that zipper you have a nice soft fleece material, so if you have it zipped all the way up it is not going to irritate your chin. Full length zipper, a pretty lightweight zipper as well, storm flap behind the zipper. And you do have adjustability points on both sides down here at the hem. So if you are wearing a climbing harness or even a back pack that has hip belt straps, you can cinch that down and it really pulls in the bottom hem. So as you are moving or as you are climbing the jacket isn’t going to ride up on you.
The pockets here are also really simple. And they have designed these. There is no zipper there. They are always open pockets, but they are really streamlined. So if you are wearing a harness over top of it, you don’t have a bulky zipper there that is going to irritate you if you that climbing harness on over top. So nice hand level hand warmer pockets.
And up here you just have a simple, small pocket to store items you want to get your hands on quickly.
There is no real insulation with this jacket, so you can wear it for most of the year. I am just wearing a very lightweight t-shirt on underneath of this, so I don’t have any heavier layers, but it is roomy enough that I could put a light weight layer under there if I needed to layer up in colder temperature. But it is lightweight enough that I can see you using this in warmer temperatures and not overheating.
I am wearing a small now and I normally wear smalls in most other pieces of Patagonia outerwear. And this is exactly how I would expect this technical soft shell to fit.
All in all you have a great, lightweight, stretchy and breathable, but also very abrasion resistant soft shell jacket.
It is the Patagonia Women’s All Free Jacket.
