Successful at doing all the things a great soft shell should, the Patagonia Women's Adze Hybrid Jacket blocks the wind, breathes well and is soft and quiet. Made from stretch-woven Polartec Windbloc fabric in the body for mobility, durability and protection from bitter cold wind, the Adze Hybrid Jacket offers versatility for cold weather backpacking, snowshoeing, skiing or climbing.
I am wearing the Women’s Patagonia Adze Hybrid Jacket. This is a multi functional, very comfortable, stretchy, soft shell jacket that is going to give you a lot of protection from the elements like wind and a light rain. We will take a look at the fabrics and all the features that makes this jacket so awesome.
The reason this is called a hybrid jacket is because you have got two different materials in play. Here on the front body of the jacket you have a stretchy, three layer Windbloc stretch woven polyester fabric. And this is a quiet fabric in that when you move it is not going to be really noisy like a... some other soft shell jackets may be. And on the sides here, you have a very stretchy, more breathable lightweight fabric. You also have that fabric under the arm and into the cuff. So this is a really great piece for anyone who is going to be climbing or moving and want a lot of protection, but doesn’t need something that is completely waterproof. It is going to be very breathable for you. But on the inside of this jacket you also have a fleece backing. So if I unzip that, you can see you have a nice fleece backing there that is going to provide warmth, but that is also going to help you wick. So if you are perspiring at all, if you build up a sweat, it is going to wick away really well.
This fabric also has a durable, water repellent finish on it. So, like I said, it is not completely waterproof, but you do have protection from a light rain or it is going to shed snow really well.
Looking at the features here, you have a nice collar at the top and this collar fits really well around your neck if you just need a little bit more protection up there you can zip it all the way up. The inside of the collar isn’t going to irritate your chin if you have that all the way zipped up. You have a full length zipper with this piece and down here at the hem you have an adjustment on either side. So you can cinch that down if you are wearing a climbing harness or even a back pack with a hip belt on it. You can cinch the bottom of that down. It is not going to ride up on you. And the extra cord, the stretchy cord at the bottom actually goes into these hand level pockets. So those aren’t going to be in the way as you are moving.
You do have two hand level pockets here but they are also set up really high so it is ... this jacket is meant to be used for climbing. If you are wearing a climbing harness, those pockets are set up high enough that you can still access the pockets even though you are wearing that harness.
There is also a nice fleece liner on the insides of these pockets, so nice hand warmer pockets, really great for chilly hands.
The fit of this jacket is really great. It fits exactly how I would expect a technical soft shell to fit. So it is a little bit more trim. I am wearing a light weight fleece layer under-neath of this and I don’t think I could get much else under it without it feeling too bulky. I am wearing a small right now and I normally wear smalls in most other Patagonia women’s outerwear, so it fits really well. The big story with this piece is that it is really, really stretchy. So that just makes it really comfortable.
All in all you have got a really comfortable, stretchy, soft shell piece that is going to provide just enough protection from the elements while still breathing and keeping you comfortable.
It is the Women’s Patagonia Adze Hybrid Jacket.
