A waterproof, breathable, 2.5 layer hard shell, the Patagonia Men’s Torrentshell Jacket is a lightweight option for hikers or backpackers seeking a balance of performance and af-fordability. Let’s take a closer look at its fit and features.
The jacket is constructed of Patagonia’s proprietary H2No waterproof, breathable, nylon rip stop fabric. So you have got that breathability, but you have also got confident protection from the elements. You have got fully taped seams which bolsters that protection and that carries through into the hood as well.
The jacket has a regular fit so anticipates the likelihood that you are wearing this over top of low profile base layers, even mid layers and also leaves open the potential for putting warmer layers over top of it.
There is Velcro adjustability at the cuffs so you can kind of dial in the fit there. There is also dual points of adjustability at the hem so you can cinch that in as well. It is a hooded jacket and there are multiple points of adjustability to dial in the fit of the hood as well.
A couple of other features to call out on the jacket, while it is constructed of a breathable fabrication there certainly can still be instances where you are building up heat faster than that fabric is able allow that warm air to escape. Patagonia understands that and it is why they have incorporated pit zips into the jacket. So on either side you have go ability to vent that jacket in those instances during aerobic activities where you need a little extra help pushing out that warm air, staying cool and not wetting the jacket from the inside.
There are also zippered pockets here on the jacket. Allows you to get your hands out of the elements. Those zippers also secure any contents that you may be storing inside the pockets and the left pocket also does double duty as a stuff sack for the jacket. So you can stuff the entire jacket into that pocket, zipper it closed and you have got a nice, com-pact jacket to throw in your pack or have at the ready when weather calls for a little extra protection.
The Patagonia Men’s Torrentshell Jacket, just a great balance of features and affordability.
