Durable, highly breathable and both water and wind resistant, Patagonia Men’s Simul Alpine Pants are perfect for cool or cold weather climbing, back packing, snow shoeing or ski touring. Let’s take a closer look at their fit and features.
The pants’ polyester soft shell fabric has a great next to skin feel. It also has excellent stretch. You have got what Patagonia would consider a regular fit to these pants. They can be worn as stand alones, but there is certainly room beneath them for low profile base layers as well. The leg narrows a little bit and there is adjustability at those cuffs, too, to pull that fit in a little closer at the cuffs. There is also a feature that allows you to tie these down from the inside out to alpine boots, so nice feature for that kind of usage as well.
There is articulation throughout the pants, certainly at the knees, the crotch and the back as well that just really allows them to mirror your movement. Again, makes a really nice option for active pursuits.
Do want to give you a look at the waist band of the pants. You will see that there are incorporated belt loops. There is not an included belt, but obviously you can use one with the pants. It comes in a variety of sizes so you can get the fit that fits you best.
But I do also want to show an interesting feature here at the button. It is Patagonia’s OppoSet construction. What it does is it incorporates a little bit of adjustability. So even though you have got sized pants, it lets you dial in that fit in a way that isn’t normally the case. There is a separating zippered fly as well on the pants. Again, a nice feature not always there in every hiking or climbing pant.
The Simul Alpine Pants incorporate four different pockets, each of them being zippered pockets. Again, a nice feature there. So you have got kind of traditional set hand pockets here, both zippered. You have got a zippered rear pocket as well. And you also have a small zippered upper thigh pocket. So a little bellowing there that gives that a little more room than it would have otherwise. I like the positioning there as well. If you are wearing this as a climbing pant, you can have your harness on, still get to that pant. So a well thought out feature there as far as access is concerned.
Patagonia Men’s Simul Alpine Pants, certainly built for alpine conditions, but also a really great option for hiking, for back packing and, as we mentioned, snow shoeing, ski touring as well, a really versatile option.
