Durable, highly breathable and water and wind resistant, the Patagonia Men’s RPS Rock Pants are optimized for rock climbing and are great for mild to cool weather activities like backpacking and hiking, cross country skiing and snowshoeing, too.
Patagonia RPS Rock Pants incorporate a number of features that make them ideal for rock climbing, but its wind resistance, its water resistance, its light weight comfort and durability also makes it a great option for back packing and for hiking. We will take a closer look at its fit and its features.
The pants are constructed of a light weight, breathable, synthetic blend. There is a little bit of stretch built in to that fabric. So, again, you have got great movement for climbing, for back packing, for hiking, what have you. There is a durable, water repellent finish that has been given to the fabric. So there is some water resistance as well as abrasion resistance, not a fully water proof pant, however.
As far as fit is concerned, you do have belt loops. The belt is not included. There is a zippered and buttoned fly. And that button fly does have an interesting treatment that gives it a little bit of adjustability. So if you want to wear these pant without a belt, you are able to do so. The knees, you have certainly got an articulated cut. It is also gusseted crotch. Together those features, again, just make this a great fitting active wear pant.
At the lower cuff you do have a pretty streamlined, low profile elastic adjustment that can pull in the pant there at the bottom so they are not dragging behind you, so that you are maintaining that slim fit to the pants.
There are a number of pockets on these pants, which certainly adds to their versatility. You have got two front pockets. There is mesh backing to those pockets that adds to the overall breathability and comfort of the pants. You also have a small zippered security pocket here on the thigh. And then in the back of the pants you also have two rear pockets. No closure on those, just open faced.
Absolutely love the fit and the feel of the Patagonia RPS Rock Pants, the kind of pants I could see myself wearing pretty much all day every day, but definitely if I am out there bouldering, climbing or carrying a pack and just making my way along the trail.
