Ideal for everything from backpacking to climbing to wear around town, the Patagonia Men’s Nano Puff Hoody delivers lightweight, packable warmth featuring PrimaLoft Gold synthetic insulation that excels in damp and cold conditions.
Feather light and well insulated, the Patagonia Nano Puff Hoody is an excellent layering option or it can be worn alone in milder climates. Let’s take a look at its fit and its features.
This jacket is constructed with a 100 percent recycled polyester rip stop shell with a DWR finish. So you have got lightweight and durable materials in that shell and that DWR just means it will shed a light precipitation. It is not fully waterproof, but it will shed a little bit of rain. The insulation is 60 grams of Primaloft Gold insulation, so it is the lightest, most compressible insulation that Primaloft will offer. It is highly compressible. It is very warm and it is super lightweight. It also retains its insulation properties even when it is wet. So if you do get caught in a storm, you can rest assured that the insulation will still be efficient.
We do have some other features in play on the jacket. We have got a full length front zipper with a little storm flap behind there so that will keep out that drafty air. We do have two pockets on the outside, just hand level pockets and they are hand warmer pockets as well, so you can zip them up if you need to or use them as pockets for storage or anything like that.
We do have a pocket on the inside of the jacket. On the left hand side there is a zippered pocket and that is a nice sizable zippered pocket that can actually be used as a stuff sack. So you can store items in there or you can reverse the jacket on itself and use this as a stuff sack, attach it to a harness and throw it on if you are at a belay or if you are traveling and you want to stuff it away you can easily do that, so nice benefit to that inside pocket.
We do have a hood on the jacket as the name suggests, so there is a full hood. It is not an adjustable hood, but it is a pretty low profile and fit hood. It could easily be layered under a climbing helmet to add some extra warmth for those multi pitch climbs, so nice hood there, very well fit hood and it is insulated so it will keep your head warm if you are not wearing a hat.
We do have some fit enhancements as well. We do have elastic around the cuffs here, so you have got kind of stretchy elastic around the cuffs. It will help seal in the warm air and seal out the cold without being too restrictive. And we do have some draw cord adjustments. So on the right side you have got a draw cord adjustment. You can cinch that hem in and make sure the jacket is not going to ride up on you if you are climbing or hiking or anything like that, so nice fit enhancements to the Nano Puff Hoody.
The fit of this jacket is pretty regular. I am wearing a medium here and I normally do wear a size medium. It is a pretty good mid layer size. I could easily throw a lightweight base layer underneath or put a shell on the outside if I need to layer up, you know, get some extra weather protection, but pretty low profile. Again, very compressible, but still very warm. The lightweight Patagonia Men’s Nano Puff Hoody is an excellent layering option.
