The Patagonia Linked Pack 16L is built for climbing. Sized as a leader’s pack for longer routes or as a follower’s pack for short climbs, the Linked Pack fits close to the body and doesn’t interfere with freedom of movement.
Streamlined, simple, convenient and extremely durable, the Patagonia Linked 16 Liter Pack is built specifically for climbers. On longer route, multi pitch climbs, this is a great lead pack. On shorter climbs this is also a great follower pack. And we will take a look at all the features and what makes this pack simple, yet very, very convenient.
First of all, the stand out feature here is the very durable materials used for this pack. So it is going to be extremely abrasion resistant. It is going to hold up against rock and against use as you are climbing.
We will turn the pack around and check out the suspension system. So it has got really supportive yet lightweight straps. Here and on the interior of the strap you have really breathable mesh. So that is going to breathe and as you are perspiring or sweating that is going to definitely wick away sweat and keep you really comfortable. This pack in general is pretty low profile and hugs close to the body. So it is not going to prohibit movement and just taking a look at the whole back panel here. You have that same mesh, that same breathability. You have got some foam behind that back panel so it gives it a little bit of rigidity, but it is very, very light weight.
There is a very small removable hip belt here on the bottom if you prefer to use that. You can also take it off of the pack if you don’t need it.
Up here you have a couple of points here. If you are using a hydration bladder, you can wrap that hose back through the back of this pack and through here. There are some webbing loops. You also have an adjustable sternum strap and you can move that up and down or you can remove it if you want to. The pocketing and organization here is really simple. Right here on the front you have a small zippered pocket where you can keep essentials that you want to keep close at hand. Right here I have got a cell phone and some other gear in there. And this pocket goes all the way down to the bottom. So while it is a pretty shallow pocket, it is a deep pocket.
You have some protection on that zipper with this really durable Cordura material on top. And this is a top loading pack so you have got really durable materials up here to open the pack up. You have a nice webbing strap that goes over the top. So any gear that you would want to drape over top of this pack is going to be secured here by this adjustable strap.
Really easy open, very wide open pocket here in the top. So I open that up. Now you can see how much space is in there. So one big pocket here. And this is hydration compatible. So you can put a hydration bladder in this pack if you want. There is also a small pocket here in the top where I just have my keys in there, small zippered pocket where you put small items that you don't want to get lost in the rest of the pack.
This top open pocket is really easy to cinch down and just kind of fold over. And, like I said, if you want to place gear over top this strap is really convenient for that. You can cinch down the rest of the pack with this as well. So if you don’t have this completely packed out you can use that as almost a compression strap.
Some last quick features here. You have really durable haul loops on the top of this pack. You need to haul gear. You have one on either side of the pack there. And then you have got attachment points on the front and all along the back for attaching any kind of gear.
One thing I want to mention is the durability is what we keep going back to on this pack. Each attachment point, everything that goes into the making of this pack is very, very durable. And so it is going to hold up to abrasion and it is going to last a really long time.
Really streamlined and simple, perfect for your next climb.
It is the Patagonia Linked 16 Liter Pack.
