Lightweight, waterproof and extremely breathable, the Outdoor Research Men's Foray Pants keep you dry and comfortable during downpours, but remove easily when the weather clears thanks to double-separating, 3/4-length side zippers.
Lightweight, waterproof and very breathable, the Outdoor Research Men’s Foray Pants will keep you dry in a downpour, but can be removed easily when the weather clears. This makes them great for backpackers, climbers or even cyclists who are looking for really good waterproof protection. Let’s take a look at all of their features.
These pants are constructed with a 50 D face fabric and a Gore-Tex pack light, waterproof breathable membrane. Gore-Tex is guaranteed to keep you dry and it provides a really nice durable and fully waterproof seal for the pants, really nice protection there, very lightweight and also very packable, so when not in use they will stow into a pack nice and easily.
Some of the features on this pant include a fully elastic waistband with a draw cord, so you can really cinch down that fit and make sure it fits you well without riding up or down. There are a few attachments on the waistband that will allow you to use suspenders should you need to do so, so there are some loop attachments on the waistband that allow the use of suspenders. And they don’t come with the pant, but the are sold separately.
Moving down we do have a three quarter length water resistant zipper. So that is going to make this pant really easy to put on and take off as well as vent in the event that you need to let your legs breathe a little bit. So there is a double zipper that comes down from the top or up from the bottom so you can have really good breathability and venting or just easy access on or off. There is one zippered pocket on the back of the pant and it also has a water resistant coating. And that also doubles as a stuff sack for the pants, so pretty nice feature on the back pocket there.
Moving all the way down to the bottom we do have a kind of cuff closure at the bottom with some elasticity and there is a snap there to hold those pants in place so the zipper, should it be up or down, the pant doesn’t come open. And there are two internal loops on the inside of the cuff at the bottom of the pant for an instep lace. So a nice additional bonus down below.
These pants do have a gusseted crotch and articulated knees, so they work with you as opposed to against you, so they move really easily and they fit very comfortably. The fit of these pants is pretty nice. They don’t have a super loose fit, but it is not a super tight fit. It is pretty standard. I could see them being layered easily over a pair of lightweight hiking pants. I just have them over a lightweight pair of shorts right now and they fit very nicely. And the movement, as I said, it is not restricted. It is very easy and free flowing so I could se these pants being great for those, you know, days in the backcountry where it is raining or when you are climbing and a storm rolls in, really nice pants for those situations.
So there you have it. For lightweight waterproof protection and a fully seam taped pant, the Outdoor Research Men’s Foray Pants are a great option for taking into the backcountry.
