Looking for a true 3-season "do everything" soft shell? The Outdoor Research Ferrosi Hoody is so lightweight, stretchy and comfortable you're going to want to wear it on every hike, climb and paddling trip you take and the durable fabric will last from one trip to the next.
The Ferrosi Hoody's combination of fabrics offers freedom of movement, durability and breathability. Cordura and spandex are used throughout the shoulders and arms for abrasion resistance and stretch while ripstop nylon with spandex in the body and hood create maximum breathability and promote movement. Just the right amount of spandex used throughout the Ferrosi Hoody allows the wearer to twist, reach and climb without restriction and the abrasion resistant panels through the shoulders and arms hold up to rough granite, desert sandstone and the wear and tear of deeply wooded trails. This wind-resistant garment packs into its chest pocket to fits easily into any backpack. An integrated carabiner loop lets you attach it quickly to a harness or the outside of a day pack.
An attached, adjustable hood can be cinched down to fit around the face in breezy conditions and a drawcord hem seals cold air out of the Ferrosi Hoody at the bottom of the torso. A low profile, zippered chest pocket stows smaller items and two zippered hand pockets keep the chill off your hands and allow you to carry slightly larger items.
Available in your choice of color and size, the Outdoor Research Ferrosi Hoody offers a standard fit and can be easily worn over base layers.

- Good, very lightweight softshell.
Likes: The jacket has 4-way stretch. Stitching seems to be good quality. Sizing seems comparable to other major brands (Columbia, etc.). Zippers are YKK, shoulders are "dropped" or "raglan" style with no seams to chafe. Overall, good quality. Note that there is no insulation at all - this is purely a soft shell.
Dislikes: Supposedly shoulders/arms are reinforced Cordura (and the fabric is definitely a different weave on these parts), though I see no tags or labeling to this effect - time will tell how long the jacket holds up. Pricing seems a bit high compared to other softshells. My particular item was made in China.
- Very easy to wear
Likes: Great hand, stretchy and comfortable to wear, does shed water when new, breathes great, looks cool
Dislikes: the cuffs are a bit too loose, the hood doesn't fit my head well and the adjustments are not helpful. The zippers are not great and stretch the fabric when you are trying to operate one handed.
