Durable, highly breathable and water-resistant, the Outdoor Research Cirque Pant functions well for winter backpacking, snowshoeing, ski touring and winter alpine conditions.
Made from a durable, double-weave, stretch soft shell fabric with a smooth polyester backing, the Cirque Pant holds up to the wear and tear of the trail. The brushed nylon face fabric repels snow, mud and damp weather. Reinforced ankle scuff guards with zippered cuff closures and gusset drawcords protect the instep of the Cirque Pant from wear. There are grommets for an instep lace as well as a boot lace clip to keep deep snow and slush out of your boot.
A gusseted crotch and articulated knees increase mobility for hiking or climbing and there are attachment points for suspenders (sold separately). Zippered hand pockets hold small items and a pocket on the right thigh and back offer more storage for car keys or a GPS unit.
The Outdoor Research Cirque Pant offers a trim fit and can be layered over light to mid-weight base layers.

- Love the pants! Returned for size small
Likes: I am 5'8" 150lbs 30" waist 30" inseam with thick legs. I originally ordered size medium because I was worried about small being to tight in upper legs based on several other reviews. The mediums were better fit in upper legs, but too long and hemming them is not an option. Backcountry Edge was great about accepting return even though they didn't have size small. Got small elsewhere. LOVE THEM. They are a bit snug in the thighs and around front pockets, but loosen up as you wear them. I have worn them for cross county, back country, and alpine skiing. Also for snowboarding, winter hiking, and ATV riding. They work great! They block enough wind and water to keep you warm and dry, but breathe well enough that you don't get wet from the inside even when working hard on a warm winter day. Your butt even stays dry riding a lift and sitting on ground to strap into a snowboard. They flex and stretch well enough to be comfortable in practically any activity. In short, they are excellent winter adventure pants despite tight fit and limited sizes being a challenge!
Dislikes: Outdoor Research really needs to provide better size options! All sizes should probably be a bit more loose in the upper legs and around the front pockets. As a minimum, need short and regular lengths in small, medium, and large.
- Great for Backpacking & Mountaineering in cooler temps
Likes: OR has some great clothing for the outdoors. The Cirque was recommended by some Mountaineering Guides and it did the job extremely well on some of my Alpine climbs. Great fit and comfortable during the climb. It kep me pretty warm as well during our summit bid without any base layers. Overall great pant.
Dislikes: The in-build gaiter section at the bottom of the pant at the ankle could be a little bit higher than and built with a more rugged material, so that it does not tear if you are not wearing a gaiter.
Likes: Great multi-season pant. Very durable material. Can be worn in cooler/cold weather in wet/snow conditions. They breath fairly well on a cold day and with a base layer can be worn in 30 degree temperatures. Overall a great pant. Very pleased with the performance I get out of these pants.
Dislikes: Nothing to date.
Likes: Super lightweight pant that provides protection in powder snow. Flexible though fit to form. Has some wind-cutting ability and more thermal protection than a typical pant. Havent tried them in wetter conditions or really cold as that is not what they are designed for
Dislikes: Havent found undesirable yet as have only worn once.
