Ideal for day hiking mountain biking trail running and adventure racing the Osprey Tempest 9 Women’s pack is sleek and functional. It weighs in at less than a pound and a half and incorporates the fit and features necessary for fast-and-light pursuits.
Committed to providing all outdoor enthusiasts with optimal performance Osprey equips its women's packs with gender-specific design features. Harnesses are cut wider through the collarbone area and have an ergonomic taper in the chest area. Offering a women's specific cant and a narrower cut the hipbelts found on Osprey's women's packs also cater to female users.
The AirScape backpanel lends the pack flexible support and maximum breathability for combatting heat build-up between your back and the pack body. The adjustable Biostretch hipbelt and harness are padded with die-cut foam and covered in mesh to keep weight to a minimum. Together they enhance comfort and optimize fit. Further enhancing fit the hipbelt utilizes an ErgoPull closure that draws tension along the top and the bottom of the belt. Accommodating hikers of varying size the pack is available in Xsmall/Small (fits torso lengths ranging from 13”-17”) and Small/Medium (16”-20”) size options.
The streamlined main compartment of the Xsmall/Small pack has a 427 cubic inch capacity and the capacity of the Small/Medium is 549 cubic inches. A front bungee attachment system is perfect for keeping discarded layers close at hand and a zippered stash pocket on top of the pack safely stows small items. Large zippered pockets on the hipbelt offer quick and easy access to smaller gear and trail essentials.
Other features include a single Stow-on-the-Go trekking pole attachment on the shoulder strap an integrated LidLock clip that safely secures a helmet and a lined exterior compartment that makes the pack hydration compatible (hydration system sold separately) and allows you to refill your reservoir without having to access the interior of the pack.

- Perfect pack for work!
Likes: This pack does the trick! As a park ranger who is constantly on the move, I needed something to carry a 1st aid kit, water bottle, a heavy old radio, and some other small items such as a flashlight. I love that the pack is just the right size -- large enough to hold everything I need, but small enough that it's not too heavy or bulky. The side water bottle pockets were a must for me to be able to carry my radio, and the extra top pocket it perfect to keep smaller items separate from the the main compartment. I am a slender gal who's 110 lbs and 5'6", with a torso measurement of 17". I could have ordered either the XS/S or the S/M, but I decided to go with the S/M so I'd get two extra liters of capacity (9 vs. 7 liters). The pack fits well and very comfortably, and even with my small waist there is still a little more belt that I could cinch in if I needed. This is my first Osprey pack, as I've always purchased Gregory packs in the past. I am happy to have found another quality backpack company!
Dislikes: The only complaint that I have about this pack is that the zippers don't seem as smooth when opening and closing as on my Gregory packs.
- Comfortable Small Day Pack
Likes: I've only taken this on a few day hikes, but so far it has performed admirably. There's plenty of space for all my gear as well as supplies for my dogs for a decent length day hike. I really like that I can route the lower compression straps on the inside of the stretchy side pockets so that I can cinch down my load and still have easy access to my water bottles. The hip belt pockets are super handy and the front bungie is great for adding that one extra item or stowing a wet layer so it can dry. I've found the fit of the pack to be highly adjustable (the load lifter straps are great) and quite comfortable even carrying a full pack in warmer weather. The back panel seems fairly breathable and I haven't had problems with too much heat building up. This is my new "go to" small day pack. I had been using a CamelBak "L.U.X.E." pack (model from a few years back), and the Osprey Tempest 9 is definitely more comfortable for me, especially in the hip belt.
Dislikes: None so far.
