A versatile carry-on travel piece, the 3660 cubic inch Osprey Meridian 22 wheeled convertible pack has integrated wheels, a retractable handle, its very own hide-away suspension system and a removable, functional day pack!
Osprey pulled out all the stops with the Meridian 22 carry-on travel luggage. There is a variety of different ways you can use this. There is a couple different carry options which makes it really versatile. You have got a fully functioning day pack that is removable. It has its own suspension system. The pack itself has a suspension system on the back so you can carry it on your back, but it has got durable wheels and a very durable frame and chassis that is going to last a long time. We will take a look at all the features and what makes this pack so convenient and special.
The first thing to talk about with any piece of luggage or backpack is how you carry the load, how you get it from point A to point B. And when this thing is fully loaded it can be pretty heavy. And we will talk about the features that make it more comfortable.
Turn the pack around so you can see the back. Now this is meant as a wheeled piece of luggage. So, as you can see, you have got two very durable wheels. These are rugged, polyurethane wheels. They have got some traction on there and they are bigger wheels than I have seen on some regular luggage, so you have really high clearance with this pack. If you are going to be traveling and wheeling this across different types of terrain it is going to last a really long time. And within that, the frame and the chassis that holds this pack is also very durable. So you don’t have to worry about taking this, again, across different terrain and traveling with it. You have got a nice frame that goes around the outside. It is an aluminum frame. It is the high quality that you can expect from Osprey. And then behind here you have got a full suspension system. So it makes it really, really versatile.
Up here you have also a very durable and convenient roller handle. It has got a button on the top and there is two points of adjustability. So if you want it a little lower, you can adjust it there if you need it higher and then you can pack it away completely.
Again, behind this panel you have a full suspension system. It makes this pack really unique. And just talking about the shape of the back panel here. With a lot of wheeled luggage you don’t have a suspension system, but with this one you have kind of a curved back. So it is going to take the shape of your back. It is not going to feel like you are carrying a box. It is not going to feel really boxy. It is actually very comfortable as opposed to some other convertible luggage that I have seen that they basically take a piece of wheeled luggage and slap some straps on it. So this is very comfortable. The design is extremely smart.
So I will open this up. Underneath you have got a very comfortable suspension system. The shoulder straps here are nicely padded and they are contoured, so just like you would expect high quality from Osprey, very comfortable, you have got spacer mesh behind that and they are very well padded. So it is going to keep you comfortable if you do need to carry this pack on your back.
There are load lifter straps which is a feature, again, that I haven’t seen a lot of convertible luggage. You have got an adjustable sternum strap with a whistle on it. And then going down to the actual hip belt, a nicely padded hip belt that is also got that spacer mesh. The hip belt here is wider and bigger than I have seen on some other travel luggage as well. And that is going to be able to help you carry the load a lot more comfortably. So if you are in situations where you need to carry this on your back for longer periods of time than you anticipated, this suspension system is going to keep you nice and comfortable.
I am going to flip this around to talk about the pockets, organization and the rest of the features. In my opinion Osprey has a very smart design with the organizational features and the pockets. They give enough features that it makes it very convenient to carry your gear and know where your gear is when you are traveling with the pack, but they don’t over do it. There is not too many features that make it cumbersome. So it is a streamlined and simple design.
There is a removable day pack on the front and that is this whole section right here on top. As I said, it is removable and there is a zipper with a really easy toggle. You can undo that and use this as a day pack. So if you are on longer trips, you are just going out for the day, it is really convenient. You have got comfortable shoulder straps and a very worthy suspension system on that day pack as well.
On the day pack you have got stretchy mesh pockets in the front. There is a small pocket right here on top where I would store keys or something I want to get my hands on quickly. I have just got my wallet in there, some electronics. There is a clip for your keys so that makes it really convenient there. The way it attaches to the rest of the pack is very stream lined. It doesn't feel cumbersome at all and when it is all together it looks like one very cohesive unit. There is big buckles here on the sides and one on the bottom. Again, you have that zipper that goes all the way around.
So I am going to tilt this down just to take a look at all of the features there.
The main access into this front bag has a lot of organization, really convenient features and I have just got a light weight layer stuffed in the bottom there to show the depth, but right here you have got a lot of pockets that make it really convenient. I have got a cell phone tucked in there. There is enough space for a laptop or a tablet. So I have got a small tablet there. Underneath of this is a padded sleeve. And it is going to accommodate a laptop that is up to 15.4 inches. So the biggest of laptops won’t fit in there, but most smaller laptops are going to fit inside of that sleeve. So you could definitely carry a laptop and a tablet. It is a great place for a notebook as well. And there is a smaller pocket right here with a zipper. I have got just a small travel notebook tucked in there and that is about all that fits in that small pocket. You have got places for pens, places for other gear. So lots of really convenient storage.
When you get into the actual pack body of this luggage, you have got one big compartment with a couple of smaller pockets. So I will go ahead and open that up. So you has got panel access into the pack, large U shaped zipper and gives you access to your whole luggage. If I give it a little tilt there you can see I have got a sleeping bag here compressed in the bottom, some shoes, clothing underneath. And something I really like about this pocket is it is really simple. They don’t over design it. They don’t overdo it. You can organize your gear in exactly the way you want.
There is compression straps. So I have got a compression strap here, one up there as well. And this actually has little fabric wings on the side so it compresses the whole load down into there and you can tuck those away if you don’t need them. But I think it makes it really convenient just to secure the load inside.
Both sides here you have a mesh pocket over here. I have just got some other clothes in there. And then there is a pocket up here so you can store some other gear up in there.
You have got a zippered pocket on the underside of the panel and then a mesh pocket up top. So toiletries, smaller items that you want to compartmentalize and get away from your other pieces of gear, you can definitely do that.
If I take that day pack off you can definitely use this without the pack on the front. You have got a really streamlined and simple look. So you can clip those, clip those down. And I wanted to show just the frame on the bottom and the chassis. There is a very convenient little carry handle on the bottoms so you can pick it up. Just to show the bottom here, you have a really nice frame. So all of these materials, the wheels, the frame, you have got an aluminum frame in there as well. You have got really, really durable materials, durable fabrics in the actual pack body as well. And just overall my impressions of the Meridian, it is very durable, convenient and the high quality that you would expect from Osprey. You can use it in a variety of extra ways. With that extra back pack that you can take out for day trips, makes it relay versatile and just a very great quality, convertible travel luggage and backpack.
It is the Osprey Meridian 22.
