Ideal for long day hikes or ultra-lightweight overnighter trips, the Osprey Kestrel 28 balances weight, features, price and performance. A lightweight, supportive suspension enables the Kestrel 28 to comfortably carry loads of up to 30 pounds.
Employing ridge molded foam and built-in air channels, the Kestrel 28's AirScape backpanel provides flexible support and breathability to combat heat build-up between your back and the pack body. A lightweight aluminum frame and a foam framesheet effectively distribute weight and deliver supportive stability. The Small/Medium Kestrel 28 is designed to fit torso lengths shorter than 19" and the Medium/Large size fits torsos that exceed 19" in length. The hipbelt and harness straps are padded, covered in mesh and perforated to keep weight to a minimum. An adjustable sternum strap further aids in stability and enhances fit. Side compression straps allow you to cinch down the Kestrel 28 to keep contents safely in place and aid in load control.
The storage capacity of the Small/Medium Kestrel 28 is 1587 cubic inches and the Medium/Large offers 1709 cubic inches of capacity. The top-loading packbag is accessed beneath a fixed top lid that incorporates zippered compartments for gear storage. Stretch woven pockets on the front and sides of the Kestrel 28 offer additional organizational options and keep gear and extra layers close at hand. Large, zippered pockets on the hipbelt offer quick-and-easy access to other gear and essentials.
Other features found on the Kestrel 28 include dual ice axe/trekking pool loops with accompanying tool tie-offs, an integrated raincover to protect your pack from the elements and a lined, exterior compartment that makes the Kestrel 28 hydration compatible and enables you to refill your hydration reservoir (sold separately) without having to access the interior of the pack.

Likes: lightweight , plenty of room for long day hikes, very comfortable, can access the water bladder from outside the pack, built in rain cover , ospreys trekking pole holders
Dislikes: if you have a small waist the hipbelt might not get tight enough, hipbelt pockets tight to get into
Likes: The fit is great. The kestrel makes a nice day pack with a minimal amount of extras.
