Catering to adventurers seeking value-packed versatility, the Osprey Farpoint 55 pack combines travel-friendly and trail-worthy features. The Farpoint 55 delivers load-carrying capability and over 3000 cubic inches of storage capacity.
With an array of convenient features and multiple different carry options, the Osprey Farpoint 55 travel pack is the perfect travel companion, whether you are traveling on trains or planes, traveling cross country, this is definitely going to be a great companion for your next adventure. We will go through all the different features here and talk about what makes this pack so great, but the first thing I want to talk about is the different carry options. And with any backpack or travel luggage, the first thing to talk about is the suspension system and how it carries the load.
So I am going to flip the pack around. The first thing I want to point out there is multiple carry handles here. So really burly carry handle on the side, same one on the top. If I flip that around I have got the suspension system tucked away here. So it is really convenient when you are traveling if you need to check this baggage. All you have to do is zip up the shoulder straps and the hip belt and they are not going to be in the way. So it makes it really great, adds a lot of value to the pack and it is going to protect your pack in those sort of conditions.
This big panel tucks away. Basically all you have to do is roll it up. There is a piece of Velcro on the outside and the inside and it tucks away really nicely and cleanly. You do have a aluminum light wire frame here so you have got some pretty durable shaping here. The frame goes all the way around the pack and it provides a lot of stability for the pack.
Underneath of this panel you have got very comfortable shoulder straps and a comfortable hip belt. So if I open those up, this is definitely more padding and a more contoured shoulder harness than I have seen in some convertible travel packs where they anticipate you wearing the pack sometimes and most of the time carrying it. But with this one it has definitely got the shoulder harness and hip belt that you would expect from Osprey. So they anticipate that you are going to be wearing it. You are going to be carrying the load on your back and it is very comfortable. You have got load lifter straps here which is a feature I haven't seen on a lot of convertible luggage. You do have an adjustable sternum strap. That sternum strap has a whistle on it. Behind these shoulder straps you have a re-ally nice back panel. It is spacer mesh and there is padding there. So as you are wearing the pack it is going to breathe. It is pretty flexible, so it is going to move with you, but with this frame around the outside, again, that provides stability.
Down here on the hip belt you have nice wide padding here. And, again, with some other convertible luggage that I have seen, you just get a really flimsy webbing belt, but with this pack you get a really nice hip belt. So, again, spacer mesh and there is padding behind there. You can adjust this really well so you have an adjustment here to pull the load in at the bottom. And then you obviously have the adjustment to tighten that up in the front.
The pockets and organization here is both streamlined and simple, but very convenient. So they give you just enough features, exactly what you need. I am going turn the pack around here. And on the front this big pocket right here is actually a separate day pack. So you can use this red toggled zipper to take that off and you can use it as a day pack. It is really convenient. It is very high quality. They are using really durable materials here. And the day pack has also really nice shoulder straps. You have got spacer mesh there. So this is really convenient. If you are going on a big trip, or you are just going out for the day and you want to leave your big luggage behind, you don’t have to carry an extra pack, an extra small day pack. You can use this day to day. I would see it being great as just going downtown and using this small pack.
You have got stretchy mesh pockets on the front and if I open this up there is two compression straps on the big pack bag. They are mainly used to compress the load. So you really secure everything down. But you could lash things to the outside using these straps as well.
So if I open that up, two stretchy mesh pockets. There is a smaller pocket here on the day pack. I have just got my wallet, some electronics, keys, that sort of thing, things you want to keep here, your ... get your hands on quickly to keep close at hand.
Behind that this is the bigger pocket here. I have go a light weight layer shoved down in the bottom there just to show the size. And then there is some organization here. It is really convenient. Stretchy mesh pocket, got a cell phone in there, there is a tab for your keys. Behind that is a pocket that could accommodate a small laptop or a tablet. So right now I have just got a small notebook in there and a tablet.
It is not a padded sleeve on front. So you do want to make sure you have got some sort of protection for the tablet, but that definitely fits in there really well.
The biggest of laptops probably wouldn’t fit in that sleeve, but most smaller laptops would.
It is really easy to take the day pack off, but once it is zipped up, it is really secure. So you don't have to worry about it moving around or anything like that. A really convenient zipper there and that comes off. So you do have a very clean look with this bag when the smaller day pack is taken off. If you are going on a shorter trip and you don’t necessarily need the day pack, you know, this definitely has a clean, simple look. You have got the compression straps on the front so you can compress it down and use it that way.
Just to show the back here, you can tuck away the shoulder straps and it has got a very small hip belt down there. So clean and simple look there.
If I open the main compartment you have got really open panel access into this pack. It is one big compartment. You don’t have a lot of organization within the pack, so you can organize your gear exactly the way you like. You have got compression straps within here so just to show you, I have got some clothing tucked away on the sides. And I have got a sleeping bag here. You can use these straps to compress that down. So within the pack you also have compression straps.
I have got some boots, some other gear items just to show the depth. So you have got a lot of room in here and, again, space to do what you want to do with your gear.
Underneath of that panel there are two separate mesh pockets. The top one here is a little bit smaller. It has got a light weight layer in there. And then you have another pocket down there. So you have got a lot of good organization.
Some other quick features here, again, we have that day pack taken off. You have got some compression straps on the bottom. These are great for sleeping pad. I can see this pack being trail worthy as well. So if you are out traveling, doing some trips in cities, but then also going on to the trail, the suspension system is definitely trail worthy. I wouldn’t necessarily take it on an extended backpacking trip, but you could definitely take it on a day or two trip. You have got some trail specific features here with this sleeping pad strap. There are lash straps on the front of this, too, so definitely very versatile option with that included day pack. This is going to be the perfect travel companion for your next adventure.
It is the Osprey Farpoint 55 travel pack.
