Catering to travelers looking for value-packed versatility, the Osprey Farpoint 40 offers travel-friendly features in a trek-worthy backpack. The carry-on approved pack delivers load-carrying capability and ample storage capacity (2300+ cu in).
Convenient carry on luggage for a variety of trips, the Osprey Farpoint 40 has plenty of features that make it streamlined and simple, really easy to use and comfortable. We will take a look at all the features here starting with the suspension system. With any luggage or backpack the first thing to talk about is how it carries the load. So I am going to turn it around here and right now I have got the straps and hip belt tucked away. So you can see on the side you have a nice shoulder carry handle. You can take this off as well. So you have got a couple of different carry options. You can carry it over your shoulder here and that is included with the Farpoint. You can carry it with a couple of carry handles and then, obviously, you have got a suspension system and backpack straps here behind this zipper. So while you are traveling with it in planes and trains and just general travel, you can tuck these away so that they don’t get caught in different places and so they are not cumbersome.
Behind this panel here this tucks away really nicely, we will show you that. But I just want to talk about the suspension system here. You do have really nicely padded and contoured shoulder straps. So on carry luggage like this you definitely got really good quality padded shoulder straps, better than I have seen on some other convertible luggage. So you definitely have the quality that you would expect from Osprey. There are load lifter straps which I don’t see on a lot of luggage. There is an adjustable torso or adjustable sternum strap here. The sternum strap has a whistle. And then moving down to the hip belt you also have a nicely padded hip belt. And instead of just a piece of webbing that I have seen on other luggage, you have got a really nicely padded panel right there. So it is very breathable and padded and, you know, if you are in warmer temperatures, sweating, that kind of thing, this mesh spacer mesh is really going to breathe and keep you comfortable.
There is a lightweight aluminum frame that goes around the outside. And that really transfers the load to the hips and gives a lot of stability for when you are carrying it. So you do have a nice frame there and all in all just a really comfortable system that is more comfortable to carry a heavy load than I have seen on some other convertible travel luggage.
We are going to turn the pack around and take a look at the pockets and all the organization. Again, nice carry handle on the side and on the top.
There are just enough features here to make it very convenient. And you can use this pack in a couple of different ways. But it is also very streamlined and simple. So they have a really clean design here. On the front you can see there is two stretchy mesh pockets for smaller items. You could definitely put water bottles in there. On the front these two compression straps are very convenient. You can really cinch down the load if you need to and compress those down. You could lash gear to the outside with these straps, but I think they are mainly used to just compress that in and really secure the load.
On the top, very small pocket where you could put your cell phone, wallet. We have got keys in there. There is a little clip. And that is just really convenient for items you want to get your hands on quickly. You want to keep these close at hand. So very convenient small pocket in the top.
And then behind this pocket there is a panel where you can store electronics. I have got a tablet in there and there is also a bigger sleeve for a laptop. So with this pack I could see you being able to carry a tablet and a laptop, notebooks, that kind of thing. So this pocket behind here is definitely big enough for that and we will take a look at it.
So you have got padding here for those electronics. In this front stretchy mesh pocket I have just got a tablet. It fits really nicely in there. It is a media friendly pocket. So it is soft and it is padded. Behind that there is a piece of Velcro and this is a bigger pocket. So most laptops would fit in there. It is pretty big pocket. I have just got some electronics in there, a small notebook and that kind of thing. So a really convenient pocket there.
And this is pretty deep. This goes most of the way down to the bottom of the pack. So although it is a narrow pocket, it is very deep and you can store those smaller items. And then behind that is where you have your main luggage compartment. They keep this really simple. You can organize your gear and your clothing the way that you want to and I will mention that both of these zippers have a little lock. So you can lock them together if you have your own separate lock.
The zipper here is really convenient. You have a big U shaped zipper, big panel access into this pack. So you see how broad that opens. I have got a bunch of gear items here. I have got clothing packed away. There is compression straps within this pocket so you have got clothing there, a sleeping bag, something soft. You can really compress that down to save room. That also keeps things folded nicely. It keeps it where you want it to be so you don’t have your gear inside moving around.
Got a pair of shoes, a pair of boots here. So this is definitely a deep enough pocket for bigger gear items. I have got a stove here and a pair of light weight trekking poles down there, just to show the size.
So, you know, really streamlined and simple. No frills in there, but definitely allows you to organize your gear the way you like. And then underneath of this pocket just a mesh compartment there where I have got a light weight layer.
The Farpoint 40 travel pack by Osprey, different ways to carry it, very versatile pack, carry on compatible with that smaller size, streamlined and simple and just enough features for your next adventure.
