Catering to adventurers who are looking for lightweight, value-packed versatility, the Osprey Farpoint 40 offers travel-friendly features in a trek-worthy backpack. The pack delivers load-carrying capability and ample storage capacity (2300+ cubic inches) in a carry-on approved size.
Constantly striving to enhance comfort and performance, Osprey has equipped the pack with a fully-featured suspension system. In expectation of comfortably carrying loads of up to 40 pounds, the Farpoint 40 employs a LightWire frame and a spacer mesh backpanel to grant strength, stability and load transfer. Further enhancing fit, the padded hipbelt utilizes an ErgoPull closure that draws tension along the top and the bottom of the belt. A sliding sternum strap and load-lifter straps allow you to fine-tune fit with on-the-go adjustments. The Small/Medium Farpoint 40 accommodates torsos ranging from 15”-19" in length while a Medium/Large size fits 18”-22” length torsos. Whether loading the pack in an overhead compartment or checking it at the airport or the train station, you can safely tuck the harness and hipbelt behind an integrated zippered security panel to ensure that your pack stows safely.
The main packbag is accessed by a wide-opening front panel zipper. A large, zippered mesh pocket on the inside of the front panel is ideal for separating and organizing clothes and gear. Internal compression straps allow you to safely secure contents. Stretch-woven front pockets keep water bottles and other gear close at hand and an internal sleeve protectively stows a laptop or tablet. The Osprey Farpoint 40 convertible travel pack/carry-on is available in your choice of color and size options.

- small light weight and fits in overhead bin of planes
Likes: small light weight and fits in overhead bin of planes
Dislikes: none so far
- Fantastic pack for travel
Likes: Very well built, fantastic warranty peace of mind, holds plenty for multi-day travel when you don't want to check a bag. Good use of pockets and padding, and I love being able to carry it with the strap, with the option of switching to backpack mode if I'm walking far with it.
Dislikes: As has been mentioned, the water bottle holders are ill-placed and their location makes no sense. Not sure how this passed the design lab, but it's not a huge deal for me.
- Nice backpack
Likes: Perfect size and everything
Dislikes: It hurts my shoulder after wearing it for too long
- Great service. Great product.
Likes: Perfect size, excellent design and comfortable to wear.
- great backpack that works for urban travel
Likes: Comfortable and not heavy compared to my previous backpack.
Dislikes: The sternum strap was defective so I had to return the backpack for a replacement. The return process was simple and quick and within a few days the replacement was sent. Hopefully this will be the perfect pack.
- Excellent carry-on travel bag
Likes: Size, compartments, ability to open the bag fully suit-case style, sturdy, high quality fabric, very comfortable to wear with adjustable straps.
Dislikes: Zippers take some getting used to because they are semi-enclosed----but that just means they are protected so it's actually good thing!
- Iightweight, efficient, comfortable carry-on pack
Likes: This pack is easy to pack efficiently, and contains a number of pockets for separating out items that need easy access. It is extremely lightweight and comfortable, and can be worn as a backpack, or carried by either a shoulder strap or a handle on the top or side. A surprising amount of gear fits into this carry-on sized pack, at least a week's worth. It's the best pack in this size that I've owned.
Dislikes: Zipper can be slightly fussy.
- Although I haven't used this yet it appears to be very durable. It did arrive on time as promised
- Exchanging for the M/L
Likes: I love this bag. The large compartment opens wide and is easy to pack with my packing cubes. The laptop sleeve has a velcro tab to keep your computer from sliding out which is nice. I also love that the bag has a frame that keeps it's shape.
Dislikes: I got the S/M version because I am in between sizes and that was the recommendation. However, I wasn't able to adjust the straps comfortably to fit my torso. When they were adjusted all the way out, the sternum strap was up near my neck. I love the bag so I'm returning for a M/L. Hopefully it will have a better fit for me.
- Great pack
Likes: I like the "suit case" unzip. I do not have to pack it in like a sack.
Dislikes: So far I have no dislikes.
