Combining its hard-earned reputation as a rugged, load-hauling option for extended backpacking trips with the revolutionary Anti-Gravity suspension, the Osprey Ariel AG 55 Women’s pack offers a dynamic, responsive fit, 2900+ cubic inches of storage capacity, and a weight-carrying capacity of up to 60 pounds!
Committed to providing all outdoor enthusiasts with optimal performance, Osprey equips its women's packs with gender-specific design features. Harnesses are cut wider through the collar bone area and have an ergonomic taper in the chest area. Offering a women's specific cant and a narrower cut, the hipbelts found on Osprey's women's packs also cater to female users.
Osprey's innovative Anti-Gravity suspension system equips the pack with weight-carrying efficiency, breathability, and a contoured fit. A broad-mesh, tensioned backpanel stretches all the way out across the lumbar portion of the pack. Though the pack maintains constant, responsive contact with the wearer, warm air can escape freely because of the separation caused between the mesh and the pack itself. Beneath the mesh, a peripheral LightWire aluminum frame. A sliding sternum strap and adjustable load-lifter straps further enhance fit.
Accommodating backpackers of different heights, the pack is available in your choice of sizes. The Xsmall size fits torsos ranging from 14”-17”, the Small fits from 16”-19”, and the Medium accommodates torso lengths ranging from 18”-21”. An Anti-Gravity IsoForm harness and a fully-padded, moldable IsoForm hipbelt maximize performance, fit, and comfort. These components are interchangeable. NOTE: The Ariel AG 55 Women’s pack ships standard with component sizes that match the torso size or “style” of the pack with the exception of the Xsmall which comes standard with Small components. If you require customization of components, please leave detailed instructions about what size hipbelt and/or harness you need in the “Order Comment” field on the “Order Review” screen at checkout or call us at 1.800.617.0643 to place your customized order directly with one of our Gear Specialists.
The pack’s large main compartment is reached through a traditional top-loading access point but a zipper on the side of the pack also allows quick panel access to the interior. Additionally, a lower compartment serves as a dedicated spot for stowing your sleeping bag or other clothes and gear. A removable divider enables you to open up the interior to create a single spacious compartment. A large front pocket utilizes welded stretch woven fabric to serve as a convenient storage spot for discarded layers or other gear. Elastic side pockets are ideal for stashing water bottles or other smaller items. Integrated hipbelt pockets provide a spot to keep essentials close at hand. Side compression straps enable you to cinch down your pack to keep contents safely and securely in place and also double as lash points for additional gear. Buckled straps that pass over the front of the packbag are designed to further enhance the compressibility of the pack and provide yet another place to lash gear. A removable top lid protects the contents of the pack and can be removed entirely to save weight . Adding increased versatility, the lid also serves as a streamlined, stand-alone daypack with its own minimalist shoulder straps, an adjustable sternum strap, and an internal hydration sleeve.
Other features include integrated Stow-on-the-Go trekking pole loops, ice axe loops with bungee tie-offs, removable sleeping pad straps, and an internal sleeve that makes the pack hydration compatible (hydration system sold separately).

- Great Bag!
Likes: I broke this backpack in on a 6 day 5 night trip in the Grand Canyon. Hermit Trail, Hermit Rapids, Monument Creek, Tonto West, Indian Gardens, and then up Bright Angel Trail. This pack was just enough room and not to heavy considering we were filtering from the creeks and carrying full water weight on each trail till Indian Gardens. The AG system really does make it feel like you are carrying less weight compared to my old pack Osprey Exos 46. Since the hip belt is molded it helps keep your pack in place versus bouncing around when hitting rough terrain. I am so glad I upgraded!
Dislikes: No dislikes, but I do recommend breaking in your pack a few times before a long trip. Since the hip belt is molded it took about two days to form to my hips before I felt the full comfort. Takes a little getting used to getting the pack on due to the hip belt, but really minor and not a issue.
- AG system is amazing
Likes: I am so glad they added the anti-gravity suspension to the ariel/aether packs. It fits snuggly and comfortably on the back and around the hips. It moves as though it's a part of you. The suspension system really does a great job of distributing the weight of the pack evenly without creating pressure points and also makes the carrying load feel a lot less. The pack is rated to carry 35-60lbs. The most I've carried in my 55L is 40lbs and it felt at least 10lbs lighter. I'm a huge fan of the top lid converting to a daypack (glad they innovated away from the hipbelt). I love daisy chains for attaching my gear quickly, but this pack has a lot of useful attachment points that I don't miss the daisy chain.
Dislikes: Nothing, but it would have been nice if Osprey included a rain cover.
