Nice Light Stove
Reviewed by Michael H. - October 13, 2016

Likes: The MSR WhisperLite has met almost all of my needs in a lightweight stove. It packs down to a small light unit and is virtually bomb-proof. The fact that many users over many years vouch for it's dependability says a lot. I also have to mention Backcountry Edge has the best price for the stove over any other website that I looked at.

Dislikes: None so far.

Great old school burner
Reviewed by Alex L. - July 18, 2016

Likes: I'm a novice when it comes to buying and using backcountry gear but for my first stove I choose the MSR Whisperlite based on the reviews and dependability of this classic stove. I have to admit in my first attempts to figure out how much gas to give it to light it...I had a couple fire balls. Then it took me a few attempts to get the stream of gas to it just right so it maintained the blue flame. Once I figured out the right amount of turns on the gas to the burner...this little burner cranked. Although it didn't beat my friends MSR Windburner to the water wasn't too far behind. I had no problems balancing my 2 liter pot on top of the burner and I love the simplicity of this stove.

Dislikes: It's a little heavier packing the MSR fuel bottle but I like that it's reusable.

Likes: I bought this stove because it's a classic and because I can't get behind the one-time-use canister mentality. It's easy to use, the fuel is readily available, the fuel costs are low, and the fuel economy is high. The stove is was it is - dated, not super small, or super light, but I like it just the way it is.

Dislikes: No complaints.

Reviewed by Mark K. - December 12, 2013

Likes: Burns nice and hot. After reading the directions once to set it up, I never had another question how to operate it.

Dislikes: Typical white gas heating element that produces a small amount of soot during start up. Didn't bother me as I expected it.

Likes: Bomb proof, very dependable, can be fixed in the field if there is an issue. This is a great stove for canoe camping and winter camping. Contrary to some reviews, it can be throttled down for simmering.

Dislikes: Too heavy for backpacking.

Dislikes: L love this item no complaints

Likes: Sper light for backpacking and worked extremely quickly

Dislikes: A little unstable until you put a pot on top to weigh it down

Reviewed by Ryan L. - June 9, 2011

Likes: Bought my second WisperLite in 20 years. This is only becasue a friend borrowed mine and lost, not because of any defect. I looked at fancier stoves and even though I can now afford to upgrade I don't see any reason to spend more money.

This is an awesome stove. I've made tea with it at top of Mt. Rainier and made heated up lunch hiking on the Oregon coast. I overhauled it twice in 20 years with kits from MSR. It has been a reliable stove on all my advnetures.

Dislikes: No build in espresso maker(ha). No dislikes!

Likes: Assembles easily. Lights off quick and safely. Works fast.

Dislikes: I wish it collapsed to a smaller bundle
