The MSR Guardian Purifier was designed to be the safest, easiest way to purify water anywhere on earth. Co-developed with the military, the Guardian uses advanced hollow-fibers to remove viruses, protozoa, bacteria, and sediment from even the dirtiest water.
On each stroke, the Guardian uses 10% of its water to flush contaminants from its filter, releasing them through the dirty water outlet hose. This self-cleaning system ensures a fast flow rate regardless of water conditions.
The Hollow Fiber Technology used by the Guardian Purifier enables it to filter up to 2.5 liters of water per minute efficiently and effectively. The 0.02 Micron cartridge is self-cleaning and long lasting, effectively filtering up to 10,000 liters of water before needing replaced. Because of the fast flow rate, long cartridge life and durability of the Guardian it is extremely useful for group camping situations or extended backpacking trips.
- Advanced hollow-fiber cartridge meets testing standards used by U.S. military for removing viruses, protozoa, bacteria and sediment from even the filthiest water
- Patent-pending system self-cleans with each stroke, eliminating the need to ever backflush or filter-scrub to maintain flow
- Purifies 2.5 liters per minute from nearly any source without chemicals, bulbs or batteries
- Treats up to 10,000+ liters
- Withstands heavy use, freezing and extreme environments, an is impact resistant

- Great Product
Likes: Easy to use, and its fast. I use it on the river in florida to make water when I kayak. I had a smaller unit but with several people on the river you need a larger unit
Dislikes: Nothing to dislike on this unit.
- First Trip, No Problems
Likes: Weight as expected for performance. Fast. More convenient and efficient than the Sawyer system I used for the last five years or so (IMHO). Worth the weight trade-off for me to have more time in camp not tied to making water and not worrying about seams on Sawyer bags bursting (gone through two Sawyer filters and probably a dozen bags). Seems better quality than the (x3) Katadyn Hiker and other (x1) MSR MiniWorks filters that have failed on me in the field in the past. I hope so for the price! Time will tell re: long-term reliability. YMMV.
Dislikes: No dislikes so far. Concerned about other reviewer reports on problems, but wanted to give pump filters a chance again versus Sawyer for speed and not dealing with squeeze bags, not worrying about freezing hollow-fibers and not having to backflush the filter after every trip. Again, time will tell but I like it so far after first trip.
- The Best
Likes: Speed of pump
Dislikes: Expensive (but you have to pay for the best)
- Pricey but effective!
Likes: While a bit on the heavy side, I'd rather be able to process water from pretty much any source, knowing it gets virus' as well as bacteria and sediment. It does pack down nicely, it's easy to operate one handed, fits the Nalgene 32 oz bottle and I love the self cleaning feature.
Dislikes: It's pricier, but with a 20% discount, it was easier to swallow. The prefilter tends to float which could be a slight problem in some water sources but I didn't find it to be much of a slowdown.
- 5 stars
Likes: - Much faster then our old filter
- Simple to operate
Dislikes: - Pricey - but worth it
- Absolute love it. I have the older (Blue) MSR Miniworks filter, so I was a little skeptical if the flow rate would be as good as advertised. The self cleaning feature is also amazing!!!
Likes: Good flow rate, self cleaning, easy to use (pull it out, use it, remove excess water, pack it back up). Although it's heavy, it's so easy to use - I carry less water to offset the weight of the filter.
Dislikes: It's a bit heavy compared to something like Sawyer Mini and expensive.
- Top of the line filter
Likes: Filters out everything even viruses.
Likes: Works as expected a little heavy but not a bad trade off for the filtration quality
Dislikes: Little heavy/bulky
- Best for most uses.
Likes: Filters viruses. Excellent flow rate. Self cleaning (except for prefilter).
Dislikes: If only could add a chemical filter module (though very few have it), would be perfection.
- great flow, worth the weight to me
Likes: excellent flow rate
maintained flow rate on multi-day trip
backflushes on its own, no seperate cleaning needed
attaches to wide mouth nalgene bottles and bladder bags
Dislikes: big/heavy, but after using various UL water filtration systems I got tired of their low flow rates, cleaning, and overall effort required to use them. The guardian fills my bags in less than 1/2 the time and 1/2 the effort, then i just put it away, no cleaning or loss of flow.
