Details

The MSR Guardian Purifier was designed to be the safest, easiest way to purify water anywhere on earth. Co-developed with the military, the Guardian uses advanced hollow-fibers to remove viruses, protozoa, bacteria, and sediment from even the dirtiest water.

On each stroke, the Guardian uses 10% of its water to flush contaminants from its filter, releasing them through the dirty water outlet hose. This self-cleaning system ensures a fast flow rate regardless of water conditions.

The Hollow Fiber Technology used by the Guardian Purifier enables it to filter up to 2.5 liters of water per minute efficiently and effectively. The 0.02 Micron cartridge is self-cleaning and long lasting, effectively filtering up to 10,000 liters of water before needing replaced. Because of the fast flow rate, long cartridge life and durability of the Guardian it is extremely useful for group camping situations or extended backpacking trips.

  • Advanced hollow-fiber cartridge meets testing standards used by U.S. military for removing viruses, protozoa, bacteria and sediment from even the filthiest water
  • Patent-pending system self-cleans with each stroke, eliminating the need to ever backflush or filter-scrub to maintain flow
  • Purifies 2.5 liters per minute from nearly any source without chemicals, bulbs or batteries
  • Treats up to 10,000+ liters
  • Withstands heavy use, freezing and extreme environments, an is impact resistant

Best One Ever Used

Likes: Simple and Fast, used it on the Current River ,MO with the Katy Canoe & Kay ak Club and had no complaints, fill my water bottle up in no time (30sec), liked the idea of not having to back flush, finally got my wife to realize the benefits of getting water on the trip and not paddling with so much

Dislikes: Do not know when you have gotten to the end of the filtering life of the filter, so you can order a new one

Well worth the cost & weight

Likes: Flow rate (although you'd have to work to get the advertised 2.5 L per min). Self cleaning filter (no need to back flush or scour the filter). I'm aware that many authorities believe viruses are a non-factor in North America water sources but the fact that the Guardian filters it gives me added peace of mind since I'm camping/backpacking with a young child. The filter life durability, I expect this filter to last me a decade +. Ease of use.

Dislikes: There is always a trade-off when it comes to your gear selection. The high up front cost and weight of the Guardian are significantly more than other filters, but for the reasons I mentioned in the "like" section, I believe the trade-off to be worth it.

Perfect Item

Likes: This thing is fairly light for being a complete purification system. The design is well thought out from the handle being perfectly sized, to how to store it, etc. Even the storage bag that comes with it has mesh on both sides beside the zipper to allow evaporation.

Dislikes: None so far.

fresh water

Likes: This filter is unbelievable!!! Tried it out a a local pond at the local park and could not believe the results. I know out on the trail there will not be any water issues now!!

Dislikes: A little bulky but a well worth it.
