The MSR Guardian Purifier was designed to be the safest, easiest way to purify water anywhere on earth. Co-developed with the military, the Guardian uses advanced hollow-fibers to remove viruses, protozoa, bacteria, and sediment from even the dirtiest water.
On each stroke, the Guardian uses 10% of its water to flush contaminants from its filter, releasing them through the dirty water outlet hose. This self-cleaning system ensures a fast flow rate regardless of water conditions.
The Hollow Fiber Technology used by the Guardian Purifier enables it to filter up to 2.5 liters of water per minute efficiently and effectively. The 0.02 Micron cartridge is self-cleaning and long lasting, effectively filtering up to 10,000 liters of water before needing replaced. Because of the fast flow rate, long cartridge life and durability of the Guardian it is extremely useful for group camping situations or extended backpacking trips.

- Best purifier on the market
-
Likes: Quality and durability, filters viruses, self cleaning
Dislikes: My dislikes are very small compared to my likes. I would prefer it to be smaller but it's not a deal breaker. Also, this is irrational, but I'm concerned about something breaking. This is irrational as nothing has broken yet and there is no sign that anything will break.

Likes: Great quality. Easy to use. Very durable.
Dislikes: Cost
- Works as expected
-
Likes: I like that it’s going to fit all my needs. Hopefully, it’ll last a long time. Time will tell if the durability will be better than some of the other reviews I’ve seen.
Dislikes: Pretty expensive. I wish the cost was less than what they’re selling it.
- Amazing...
-
Likes: Used this recently on my A.T. backpacking trip. It was perfect. Water sources were very low flow in places and this thing hardly needs a trickle to work. Has the added feature of peace of mind knowing that this baby filters out just about everything. When there is a good flow this really pumps out a great flow per minute. Even cleans itself as you use it....what could be better?
Dislikes: None.
- Awesome pump
-
Likes: Quickly fills 32oz nalgene bottles
Dislikes: No flavor filtration.
- MSR Guardian, best of the best
-
Likes: This purifier does it all. Its sturdy and easy to use. Really designed to actually purify and filter water at a high level. The case is tough as are the rest of the parts. The pump action is positive and easy to use. Nice carry case and manual.
Dislikes: None
- Fast
-
Likes: The long handle makes pumping very easy. I can fill containers quickly with no need for further treatment after. Plus the threads fit my Army issued water bladders.
Dislikes: A little bulky, but not huge.
- Great Product
-
Likes: Easy to use, and its fast. I use it on the river in florida to make water when I kayak. I had a smaller unit but with several people on the river you need a larger unit
Dislikes: Nothing to dislike on this unit.
- First Trip, No Problems
-
Likes: Weight as expected for performance. Fast. More convenient and efficient than the Sawyer system I used for the last five years or so (IMHO). Worth the weight trade-off for me to have more time in camp not tied to making water and not worrying about seams on Sawyer bags bursting (gone through two Sawyer filters and probably a dozen bags). Seems better quality than the (x3) Katadyn Hiker and other (x1) MSR MiniWorks filters that have failed on me in the field in the past. I hope so for the price! Time will tell re: long-term reliability. YMMV.
Dislikes: No dislikes so far. Concerned about other reviewer reports on problems, but wanted to give pump filters a chance again versus Sawyer for speed and not dealing with squeeze bags, not worrying about freezing hollow-fibers and not having to backflush the filter after every trip. Again, time will tell but I like it so far after first trip.
