The MSR Elixir 3 3-season tent is feature-rich and extremely livable at a price that won’t break your budget. Designed for three backpackers, the freestanding Elixir 2 has floor space to easily fit three 20 inch mattresses side-by-side.
The unique pole configuration of the Elixir 3 provides 39.5 square feet of interior space and a full 41 inches of interior height for maximum livability. Strong and supportive, the 7000-series aluminum poles are durable, yet lightweight. Poles, clips and webbing are all color-coded to take the guess-work out of set-up, and 6 aluminum stakes are also included to aid in securing the freestanding Elixir 3. Two large StayDry doors lead to dual vestibules offering a combined 17.5 square feet of additional protected storage space.
A balance of mesh and solid canopy fabric construction keeps weight to a minimum while providing venting, warmth and privacy, as needed. The Elixir 3 is extremely breathable, which increases livability and combats the build-up of condensation on the interior of the tent. In warm, clear weather, you can tie back the exterior doors to allow even greater airflow. And you can enjoy the view through the star-patterned skylight when the rainfly is open.
The Elixir 3 employs taped seams on the bathtub style floor with Durashield coating and a 1500mm PU coating on the rainfly to prevent leaks. The stress points are reinforced to prevent tear-outs, and a number of internal storage pockets are built in to provide places to stash essential items inside the Elixir 3.
If you prefer to travel even lighter, the Elixir 2 rainfly can be used alone or in tandem with the included footprint, making the MSR Elixir 2 a lightweight freestanding minimalist shelter.

- Great beginner tent
Likes: Great price to quality ratio. Quick set up. Free footprint. Roomy for two large people with a lot of gear or a dog; fits three in a pinch. Rainfly works well. An overall great tent that works as a car camping tent or a heavier backpacking tent.
Dislikes: Could use a smaller storage sack. Included one doesn't seem to compress the tent much and takes up a lot of room in the pack.
- Love my new tent
Likes: Very roomy! I'm going to use it by myself and it has enough room for all my gear inside the tent though there is also room under the fly. Love it.
Dislikes: Could be just a little more room under the fly but okay. Wish it came in other colors but red is okay. Glad the fly is gray.
- Great Tent
Likes: Sets up super fast. Is lightweight, which is great for my pack. Also love the fact that they color coded the poles and the loops for setup.
- Happy Camper
Likes: This is my first tent. It seems to be very high quality. The first thing I did was set it up and admire the craftsmanship. It was easy to set up and I like the balance of mesh and privacy.
Dislikes: I wish it came in different colors.
