The MSR Elixir 1 tent maximizes internal space and delivers durable 3-season solo backpacking performance at a price that won't break your budget. A footprint is even included to add versatility and increase value.
The unique pole configuration of the tent provides 20 square feet of interior space and a full 39 inches of space-increasing interior height. The lightweight 7000-series aluminum poles are strong and durable. Poles, clips, and webbing are all color-coded to take the guess-work out of set-up, and aluminum stakes are included to aid in securing the freestanding pitch. Internal pockets allow you to make the most of available space by allowing you to store clothes and gear up and off of the floor. A large door leads to a sizable vestibule that offers 12 square feet of additional protected storage space. If you're looking for even more external storage, consider purchasing the MSR Gear Shed (sold separately) which connects directly to the tent and provides an additional 26.5 square feet of coverage.
A balance of mesh and solid canopy fabric construction keeps weight to a minimum while providing venting, warmth, and privacy. The mesh panels and integrated fly vents allow for air circulation that combats the build-up of condensation on the interior of the tent. In warm, clear weather, you can tie back the exterior door to allow even greater airflow.
The tent employs taped seams on the bathtub style floor and on the rainfly. Protective PU coatings on the 68D ripstop polyester fly and 70D taffeta nylon floor prevent leaks and fend off weather. Stress points on the tent body, floor, and fly are reinforced to prevent tear-outs.
The included footprint adds durability by protecting the floor of the tent from mud, ground water, and sharp objects like rocks, exposed roots and pine needles. It also enables you to leave the tent body behind (when conditions allow) and use just the poles, footprint, and fly to pitch the tent as a minimalist freestanding shelter.

Real Customer Reviews
- Nice tent, measurements not realistic...
Likes: Better quality of materials. Best for a smaller person, because it's tiny inside.
Dislikes: Heavy for what you're getting compared to some other options. Also, I'm quickly learning that tent manufacturers do not list correct usable interior space. As in, from seam to seam, the tent may measure one set of dimensions, but if it's got a bath tub floor, that seriously decreases those measurements. Case in point with the Elixir 1. I called MSR to ask about this issue and was told that their specs were correct, which is what BCE has to go by. I got the tent and the width is easily 7" smaller than the listed 33". Which is frustrating, in that I get to pay return shipping to send it back. Once again, I don't hold BCE responsible, but MSR. Seemed like a nice enough tent, but I can also see where it would be easy to snap a pole. The grommets don't hold the pole ends well and the poles themselves are very tight.
- One of the best brand and tent!
Likes: I'm extremely happy with such tent. After using 2 other kind of tents i can feel real quality of MSR brand, each detail of this tent is so easy to use, fundamentally reliable. Yes, it's not a ultralight tent, however, it's totally fine for me for 3 seasons. :) Inside of this tent is so much space so i can read, fishing and still be happy.
Dislikes: Not so lightweight. :)
- Strong, waterproof tent
Likes: Elixir 1 did well in howling wind, torrential downpours. Large vestibule. Easy set up and take down. Highly recommended solo tent.
- bargain from msr
Likes: Materials, quality, ground sheet included, roomy.
Dislikes: On the heavy side.
